Hugh C. Morris Experiential Learning Fellowship

The Hugh C. Morris Experiential Learning Fellowship, valued at $40,000 Cdn, is open to Canadian and international
students registered in a Masters (professional and thesis based masters programs) or Doctoral program at a Canadian
institution. The fellowship will be awarded to a student who exhibits excellence in research and seeks to further their
knowledge through a program of experiential learning.

An Information Webinar about the Fellowship will take place on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 9:00am PST (12:00
EST). Registration for the Webinar is available at: https://kimberley-foundation.org/hugh-morris-fellowship/

Students eligible to apply to the Fellowship must be studying in one of the below listed fields:

· earth or geological sciences


· water sciences
· alternative energy sciences
· climate change
· sustainability
· environmental studies, including either life, design, or engineering sciences
· social impact assessment of any of the above areas
· social sciences concerned with any of the above areas, or
· design sciences concerned with any of the above areas

The Foundation will privilege applications that strive to pursue experiential learning programs that ultimately will enable the
applicant to positively contribute toward global environmental sustainability or which will position them to pursue a future
leading to significant societal impact.

How to apply
Students must complete an online application and provide the following items:

· A written proposal of the planned Experiential Learning Program (must download and complete the ELP Description
form) (in PDF format)
· A Proposed Budget including statement of contributions (cash and/or in-kind, if any) from participating entities in the
proposed ELP (must download and complete the budget application form ) (in PDF or Excel format)
· A current curriculum vitae in PDF
· 2 written references from academic supervisors (which the applicant must arrange to be sent to the Kimberley
Foundation)
· A written Letter of Support / Invitation from each organization, research laboratory, site visit entity, and any
participating government or community partners identified in the proposed Experiential Learning Program.

participating government or community partners identified in the proposed Experiential Learning Program.
· All applications are accepted and considered in confidence.

Evaluation criteria
· Excellence in research in one of the eligible fields for entry
· Leadership experience (of complex research projects or other comparable experiences)
· Clarity, ease and excellence of communication
· Demonstrated desire to create social or community benefit through research innovation
· Viability of Experiential Learning Program

Submission Timelines
· February 15, 2021 (11:59 pm PST) – Application submitted through Kimberley Foundation website portal including

Support Letters from organizations, communities, etc. that you will visit as part of your learning journey
· February 28, 2021 (11:59 pm PST) – Reference letters from academic supervisors must be sent from the referee
directly to the Kimberley Foundation via email to info@kimberley-foundation.org
· March 15, 2021 – Decisions announced.
