Name of reviewer (your name): Denise Villas
Name of the Website: ABCYA.COM
Educational Product/Software Selected: ABCya Games
Web Address to the Product/Software: https://www.abcya.com/games/
Publisher: Alan Tortolani
Grade Level: Pre-K - 6th Grade

Provide a brief description of the product/software: ABCya is an educational website that

focuses on teaching students from punctuation to grammar. It provides visual aides for the
students to show what they missed.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the product/software? I think the only weakness that
the website has would be the fact that it can come off as just playing games. Rather than
students actually learning, they may want to strictly use this website to play. The strengths
of this website include that it is entertaining. It’s contradictory to its weakness, but it does
capture the attention of the students. Especially with younger students, the website focuses
on colors and sounds and it is bound to keep the students’ attention.

Is the product/software easy for you and the students to use? Explain.: The website is very user
friendly. All of the tabs are self-explanatory. With the tech savvy culture we now have,
students would be able to pick up on the software easily. As for teachers, it also shows
Common Core Standards for each grade level. It’s very straightforward, which a lot of
teachers can appreciate.

Does the software serve its intended purpose, which is classroom use? Explain: It does serve its
purpose for the students. It provides different games that relate to English Language Arts,
which would be very beneficial for my students in the future.

Are there multiple forms of media (audio, video, and textual communication channels) that
encourage the student to engage with the software? Explain.: The website focuses on keeping
the students engaged. They use the pictures and videos for the games to show the students
how each game is played. They also make sure to show the students what changes need to
be made.

Is the documentation for the product/software, such as technical support, instructions on how to
use the product, and hardware requirements presented clearly on the website? Explain. : It does
state on the website how to use the software. It varies on which membership the educator
decides to purchase, but everything else is still self-explanatory.
Is the software adaptable to support specific accessibility needs of learners with disabilities?
Explain.: The software might be a little sensitive for the students who do not do well with
too many sounds or too many pictures happening all at once. I do not think this website is
quite accessible for learners with disabilities.

Does the software program give appropriate feedback to responses (assessment)?: It does give
the students feedback right away about how they can increase their scores with each game.

Can the skill levels be adjusted by the student/instructor? Explain.: The levels cannot be
adjusted by the students nor the instructors. But they are able to choose from levels Pre-K
to 6th grade. It could vary from teacher to teachers about what they would want the
students to do.
