2. LIBRARY SORCES
Library is a place set apart to contain books, periodicals, and other material for reading,
viewing, listening, study of reference, set of rooms, or building where books may be read or
borrowed. As to its characteristics, libraries are known their reliability, accuracy and value -
Libraries of published books are often considered highly reliable, accurate, and valuable. Books
and documents from dominant sources are often peer reviewed. ISSN or ISBN registration ensures
that standards were followed in producing these materials. Library is divided into different
sections with their own functions. Periodical, Archive, Reference, Circulation, Filipiniana,
Internet section, AVR section, E-library section, Law & Graduate Studies Library,Special
collections, and Technical section.

Roles of libraries in the society. These are just some reasons, as discussed in the study of
KROLAK (2005)
1. Facilitators of information
2. Custodians of national and cultural riches
3. Innovators of information-seeking practices
4. Facilitators of other activities
What libraries can offer
According to Henry Ward Beecher, who was an American clergyman,” The library is not a luxury,
but one of the necessities of life”. Hence, information is indeed a necessity.
Here are some of the services libraries can offer:
1. Books. Needless to say, books are the most common information resources in the library.
2. Magazines. Some people prefer this kind of source because of its enticing graphics, which
are most appropriate for visual learners.
3. Newspapers. Play a vital role in providing people relevant information. This is essential
esp. in providing important news about timely issues.
4. Journals. Are research-oriented articles that are more in-depth compared to newspapers.
5. Maps. Are visual representations of geographical information.
6. Digital Sources. There are also digital information sources that the library can offer-CDs,
tapes, and even films.
Library sources are still relevant today despite the advent of the internet today. Even the
information is just a click away nowadays, still the library can offer various kinds of information
which are more thorough for learners.
