Checklist

1. Have you filled out the casting form?

2. Did you do an ID?
3. Did you record the required action?
4. Did you send it using auditioncam?

General Tips for filming the scene

• It's fine to film on your phone just make sure you turn your phone on its side
and wipe the lens before you begin. Always use the camera on the back of
your device. This camera is better quality than the camera on the front.
• Please don't have the phone below or high above you. The lens should be
around eye level for the main person in the scene.
• If you have a tripod, great, otherwise you can rest it on something.
• Make sure you can be seen and heard clearly.
• If possible film a head and shoulders shot in front of a plain
background unless stated otherwise below.

NOTE FOR ALL ACTORS:

For all roles (apart from Ollie) everyone should read the script first to get an
understanding of the overall ad. As you can see we see everybody in a different space
e.g. mum in the office etc before realising they are all sitting at the kitchen table on their
devices.

Please note the scenes we’re asking OLLIE to film don’t really appear in the
script. We want him/her to film the below for the audition so the script is not
relevant. Whoever is filming this with them might like to read the script to understand
the overall context but kids should just focus on the action here to keep things simple.

For BEN please note the line below is different to what’s in the script. He should
read the script to understand the overall context but should tape the version below.

As always please ensure all info is kept totally confidential.

MUM
Actors who are family members should film their intro clip together so we know they are
family.

Wardrobe: Smart Casual. She’s just home from the office. She might wear a
shirt and jeans.

Scene:

MUM is sitting at the head of the table in an impressive boardroom. The room is clean,
premium and office-like and dressed with all of the usual office tropes. TOM and
EMMA, two members of the team are being briefed.

MUM With that in mind could you get back to Frank

and see if you can negotiate a better rate for
us. I’ll also need those files to review by
morning and Tom I need you to work up the
monthly report on our international figures.

We can see Tom and Emma sheepishly nodding.

MUM Any questions?

She notices her little boy who comes in and says "Ok Dinner time, phones down" She
looks at him and softens - we see how much she loves him and how proud she is of him
taking control and telling the family it's dinner time. They have a special relationship and
he's basically mimicking her - it's pretty cute. She gives him a smile and says something
like Ok Ollie, I'm ready. (She could say into her phone (still in mom mode) Ok guys
gotta go). You can improvise this last bit.

Performance note
We want to keep this really natural and real. She is business like with her staff at the
start, not cold but focused and efficient - in work mode. As soon as she sees Ollie, we
see a warmer side to her but keep it very real and subtle. It's not a big moment - the
emotion is internalised. It all happens pretty quickly. She switches to mum mode as
soon as she sees him.

You should be sitting facing the camera. Imagine your colleagues are sitting opposite
you. Ollie comes in from behind the camera so is basically standing beside them for
your eyeline.

Ollie
Actors who are family members should film their intro clip together so we know they are
family.

2. Tell us how old you are.

Please answer the questions above. If the answer is no, tell us.

Wardrobe: Casual Clothes

Scene:
Ollie is the heart of this film and needs to be a heart melter. He/she cares deeply about
his/her family and has a special bond with mum. He/she takes great pride in his/her role
as dinner time ’table setter’ and as mum is a go getting organiser, he/she dreams of
following in her footsteps.

Scene 1
You are setting the table for dinner. This is your job and you do it every day. You like
doing it -it's important and you know how to do it just right. Lay the last two knives and
forks on the table. Straighten the salt and pepper, make sure they are in the middle.
You like things to be perfect. Look one more time to make sure you are happy with the
table. Then shout to your family "Alright folks, dinner".

Performance/filming notes

(It should only take about 20 seconds or so. No need to lay the whole table from start to
finish). Ollie should be facing towards the camera while laying the table so the camera
is in front of him/her but (s)he shouldn’t look into the camera. Imagine your family is in
the other room just out behind the camera so you’re looking straight ahead as you call
them.

Scene 2

OLLIE is talking to his/her classroom about his/her family. We want to see him talk
about his Mam – it’s fine to put the below in their own words if that’s easier. We just
want it to feel very real and honest. (S)he loves mam.

OLLIE: Mam is… Mam is a

business person who always
knows what to do. She shows me
how to do things. She’s my best
friend.

Performance note
Remember you are standing up in front of the class talking to them about your family.
Imagine the whole class is standing in front of you. You are facing the camera but don’t
look into the camera. We should be able to see your head and shoulders.

BEN

Scene:
BEN is briefing his wartime comrades on their next mission in a dimly lit bunker. A map
of their position is flattened out using salt and pepper shakers.

BEN: General, wait for my signal and then move your men south.
We need to ensure there's enough cover to hold them back.

The room shakes, the lights flicker. A BANG. A hole has been blown in the bunker to
the left from a Mortar. Smoke billows in. From the smoke appears, OLLIE (5), cute and
blissfully content in his role as table setter. Not perturbed by or even aware of the
scene, not even acknowledging it, the smiling young boy sets a place for his older
brother on the war table. BEN looks at Ollie and gives him a little smile.

Performance Notes
Keep your performance very real. You are confident and in control. You are in charge of
the troops. You react to the explosion just by looking up with a bit of concern, you keep
your cool and don't lose control. Then you see Ollie. Give him a small smile. Keep your
voice calm, steady to the point. Your performance is not dramatic. The stakes are high
and there is a sense of urgency but you are totally in control.

Also make sure you read the script so that you can understand what’s happening. You
are actually gaming so while it appears you are at war, we’re just seeing it in your mind
as you play. Your brother who is arriving brings you back to reality.

You are standing at a table with the map in front of you. Your men are in a circle around
the table – you can refer to the map but be careful not to look down too much. You are
facing camera. Ollie comes in towards you from behind the camera. We should be able
to see your head and shoulders.

Wardrobe: She has a strong sense of style and maybe she is a little
alternative looking. She is not a goth.

Scene:
RACHAEL (16) stands before the record table of a classic American Style record store.
She is alone in this world of music. Our music lover listens to music through large
headphones and flicks through options on the record desk. She's enjoying what she's
listening to. OLLIE enters - she notices him and gives him a little smile, maybe she says
I'm coming and takes the headphones off.

You are standing flicking through records. You are facing camera. Ollie comes in
towards you from behind the camera. We should be able to see your head and
shoulders. Be careful not to look down too much.

Wardrobe: Casual Clothes

Scene:
We see dad putting the finishing touches on dinner. If possible use some props to make
this feel real, maybe you're chopping something and adding it to a salad and then
putting pepper on it. Call the family to come to dinner. Ask Ollie if the table is set (it is).
You might say something like Rachael - headphones off please. You're in good form,
not stressed. Keep it all very casual. We just want it to feel like a real family dinner.

Wardrobe: Business Attire

Scene
You are being briefed by your boss. If possible someone off camera could say “And I
need you to work up the monthly report on our international figures”.

You respond

Colleague: Yes of course, will do.

Your boss says (off camera) Any questions?

You shake your head.

Performance note:
Maybe a little nervous but keen to impress your boss. Keep your performance very real
and natural. You are sitting in front of the camera. Don’t look into the camera – your
boss is just to the right of the lens.
