Tomb of Ty at Saqqara

Ty was the overseer of the pyramid and the funerary


temple of Neferirkare and Neuserre from the fifth dynasty,
he was married to a princess known as neferhtps. His tomb
is found in saqqara, it consists of an entrance followed by
two pillars. The entrance leads toan open court contains 12
pillars. The court leads to a long passage and a staircase that
leads to an offering chamber. Then we are in the funerary
chamber which contains a scene for an offering table having
the shape of htp sign and also a scene for a false door.
This scenes in this tomb runs as follows:

The entrance {1}:

Scene (a):
Depicts some peasents representing their irllages
belonging to Ty and carrying food and walking in a
procession following Ty.
Scene (b):
Shows Ty with his son and some birds fed infront of
them.

The open court {2}:


One of the 12 pillars found in the open court still
carries the figure of Ty, but unfortunately the rest don’t
contain any scenes. Most of the scenes in the open court are
badly damaged because of the sun rays.
Scene (c):
Shows a scene far slaughtering of an ox.
Scene (d):
Shows Ty placed on a carrying chain followed by
some of his servants or attendants as well as fan bears also
we can see one of his servants leading the Egyptian hound
and the monkey.
Scene (e):
Represents Ty and his wife inspecting the force
feeding of gees, also Ty is shown holding a stick, also there
is another scene representing a man while fanning the fire
beneath copper pot.
Scene (f):
Represents Ty receiving accounts from his officials
(dmdt).
Scene (g):
Represents Ty while walking out of the tomb and is
shown as similar figures each figure is wearing different
costume to indicate his various administrative function.

The corridor {4}:


The first half of the corridor was decorated with scenes
in very good condition, they usually represent the
traditional offering scenes in all registers.
Scene (h):
Depicts a scene for slaughtering an ox in the bottom
register.
The middle register is a scene representing
transportation of a statue on sledges
The upper part is a register is a scene for a seated
statue of a deceased.
Scene (I):
Shows a scene for sailing vessels ‫مراكب مبحرة‬.
Scene (j):
Above the door Ty and his wife are shown an a papyrus
boat coming out from the marshes.
Scene (k):
A scene representing Ty and his wife seated at his foot
while being entertained by some musicians and singers.

The offering rooms {5}:

On the right hand side of the corridor there is a small


entrance which leads to the offering room better known as
store-rooms. The walls of this room are covered by offering
scenes (l).
On the rear wall scene (m). a scene representing baking,
brewing (making beer) while the scribe making some notes,
the text gives us 16 types of bread, four types of beer and six
types of wine.
Scene (n):
The corridor leads us to the final room known as the
funerary chamber {6} or the sacrificial chamber which has
two pillars decorated in imitation of red granite. They
also bear the names and titles of Ty.

The north wall is decorated with daily-life scenes


representing boats, games, laden vessels ‫ مراكب محملة‬and
agricultural scenes as well as cattle crossing a small calf. In
the southern wall there are three slits through whivh the
statue of the deceased can be seen in the serdab. From
either side of the serdab is a scene representing men
burning incense. The original statue is now in the Cairo
museum while the present statue is a bust of lime stone.
