EEN 345 Course project procedure

To open the project, click on File >> Activate >> Nine Bus System.

Task1: Turning the Generators On and OFF, one by one, and Tabulating
Load Flow Data:
1. To turn off the generator, double click on the switch (black box) of the generator.
2. select calculate load flow from toolbar then execute to perform load flow
calculations as we did in lab2.
3. Repeat that step for each generator, and view the output of the load flow
calculations and compare them briefly.

Task2: Plotting Voltages on all Busses in a Dynamic Simulation While

the Generators Are Turned On and OFF:
1. To activate dynamic simulation, select Stability analysis from the toolbar, then
press on calculate initial conditions then execute.
2. To define voltages variables for all buses, press right click >>Define >> variable
set >> close, for each bus.
3. To plot voltages, click on create simulation plot from the toolbar, then on the
curve table press on Element; which in this case select all the elements (9
elements); then on the Variable, select voltage stability for all elements.
4. On the curve, press right click then turn on the auto scale for x and y.
5. Press on start simulation then execute to run it.
6. To remove the curve line of the graph because of stability event, press on
calculate initial condition then execute, then press on simulation events/faults
and delete the event to get a straight line.
7. To get the effect of the switch graph, press on calculate initial condition then
execute. In bus1, press right click >> Define >> switch event >> open at 1
second then press again right click >>Define >> switch event >> close at 5
seconds.
8. Press Start simulation for 5 second then execute to run it.
9. For bus2, repeat step 7 and 8 but open at 2 second, close at 5 second and start
simulation for 10 second.
10. You have to clear the initial event from simulation events/faults to not get the all
events together.
11. For bus3, repeat step 7 and 8 but open at 3 second, close at 6 second and start
simulation for 10 second.

Task3: Creating a 3-Phase Fault at Bus 3 and plotting transient Voltages

on all Busses:
1. Clear the initial event from simulation events/faults.
2. To get a 3-phase fault standard graph at bus5; press right click on that bus >>
Define >> Short Circuit Event >> 2 seconds in Execution Time >>3-Phase Short-
Circuit in Fault type >> Ok.
3. Press Start simulation for 10 second then execute.
4. To get after fault standard graph; on the same bus, press right click>> Define >>
Short Circuit Event >> 2 seconds in Execution Time>> Clear Short Circuit in
Fault type >> Ok.
5. Press Start simulation for 10 second then execute.
6. To get a stable system in the graph; on the same bus, press right click >> Define
>> Short Circuit Event >> 4 seconds in Execution Time >> Clear Short Circuit in
Fault type >> Ok.
7. Press Start simulation for 10 second then execute.

Task4: Design a protection system using an Overcurrent Time Relay,

create the Time-Overcurrent plot:

You can do it..
