Drinking Age Should Return To 18

Calling an 18 year old an adult then turning around and saying they can't drink is like

telling a 5 year old the can have sweets because their a big kid, then when they ask for candy

you tell them no. If you give an 18 year old responsibilities and tell them they are an adult but

then treating them like a kid and say the can't drink is just ridiculous. Don't just half way treat

someone like an adult,they are adults they should be able to make their own decisions

Yes, understand that people under the age of 21 are more likely to get in a car drunk and drive.

But there are precautions and new ones that can be enforced to help. Although some may say

that lowering the drinking age is not a good idea and will create problems , lowering the drinking

age is something that should've happened a while ago.

In the 1980s all 50 states passed a law called the Drinking Age Act, it made the drinking

age 21 to prevent drunk driving accidents in the United states. Yes it did succeed in preventing

many accidents. That was 50 years ago and there are new precautions and ones that can be

made to help prevent accidents. Now there are new safety features in cars and D.U.I rules to

help prevent accidents. “We don't hand teenagers car keys without first educating them about

how to drive..” We can take this same concept and use it for drinking. Make kids take drinking

classes senior year in highschool and even open the class to adults. It would provide them with

the dangers of drinking and the do’s and don'ts.they have stopped drinking. Its just droven it

underground and it is abused more now.

The drinking age shouldnt be lowered because, risk of more sexual assault due to

abuse of drinking.“We played quarter bounce (a drinking game). I got sick drunk; I was slumped
over the toilet vomiting. He grabbed me and dragged me into his room and raped me.’’said by a

college student who had participated in studies of the Department of Community Medicine,

Wayne State University. This female was just playing a game with a ‘friend’ and ended up being

raped at a vulnerable state. If alcohol wasn’t consumed the chances of her being raped would

have gone down.As a result of drink a substantial amount of alcohol, many believe sexual

assault precentages will rise. Though it is a valid argument there are precautions that be taken

to help prevent such things.

At the age of 18 you are considered and treated as an adult, you are expected to pay

taxes, you can sign your life away to the military and even marry the love of your life. But you

are unable to satisfy your taste buds because you arent 21, considered an adult and yet treated

as a child. Some believe its because at 18 your not responsible enough, but its because some

people are stuck in 1984 when they passed ‘The Drinking Age Act’ to help prevent car

accidents. It did help alot but it didnt stop it, it drove it underground and now its drink as much

as you can before the cops get here now. There are new safety precautions and rules to help

prevent drunk driving, you can manidate classes like drivers ed to teach you about the dangers

of drinking to much. You can limit the percentage you can have till you turn 21. If you can fight

for the country, vote for the next president or even by a gun, you should be able to satisfy your

taste buds.
