This week was Autism Awareness Week!

In the fifth grade inclusion classroom I'm in,

this week meant a lot. Although we only have two students with autism and our classroom, one
being extremely high functioning and the other being high functioning with a few more visible
acts, such as fixations, of autism It was important for all students to understand and accept any
type of person with autism. Mr.Arcona, The special education teacher who works in our
classroom did an amazing job of demonstrating this to the students using videos. The students
were also able to ask any questions they had. And some had extremely good questions. Most
students in the classroom understand that the one student who has more obvious autism is a
little bit different and they're all very kind of him for the most part. It was a great way to express
our love for any person who has autism!
This week I had a lesson plan on inferencing. I was so excited to do this lesson plan as
it evoked creativity and learning together which I strongly believe in. Having the students write
their own little paragraph and having other students infer what they wrote about. It was so fun to
hear all the little stories they had created and read to the class. They were also confident
between me extremely happy as I feel their understanding helps with their confidence. It was a
great week and I'm excited for the next week.
