Connecting the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing

Introduction

This is the installation guide of the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing. This allows you to quickly connect
the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing. For a functional description of the Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router
inside the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing, refer to the Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router manual which is
present on the TAP distribution CD delivered with the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing.

What is the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing?

The Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing is an IP67 housing that allows a complete Telindus 1421 SHDSL
Router indoor housing to be fitted inside. By doing so, the Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router is protected
against harsh environmental conditions. The necessary cables can be connected on the outside of the
Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing.

Unpacking the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing

Checking the shipping carton

Rough handling during shipping causes most early failures. Before installation, check the shipping car-
ton for signs of damage:
• If the shipping carton is damaged, please place a claim with the carrier company immediately.
• If the shipping carton is undamaged, do not dispose of it in case you need to store the unit or ship it
in the future.

Package contents

The box should contain the following items:


• Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing
• Signal connector cable part
• Power connector cable part
• Set Fisher/plug/screw 6x50mm
• Security seal
• High Temperature Silicone Joint
• TMA CD, including the Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router software and manual

Safety instructions

Disconnect the power supply before installing, adjusting or servicing the unit.
The safety of this unit depends upon the protective earth pin. Do not defeat this safety feature. If the
power outlet at your site only has 2 pins, please consult a qualified electrician.

ESD warning

The circuit boards are sensitive to electrostatic discharges (ESD) and should be handled with care. It is
advisable to ensure an optimal electrical contact between yourself, the working area and a safety ground
before touching any circuit board. Take special care not to touch any component or connector on the
circuit board.

EMC compliant installation

The Telindus access products are fully EMC compliant. To ensure compliance with EMC directive 89/
336/EEC, shielded cables or ferrite beads have to be used.

Ensure that the unit and its connected equipment all use the same power and ground, to reduce noise
interference and possible safety hazards caused by differences in ground or earth potentials.

Outdoor use is allowed. Protection against moisture, vibration and impact.

This unit may be powered by an IT power system.

Connecting the IP67 signal connector

Before you can plug the male IP67 signal plug (delivered with the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing) into
the female IP67 signal connector (present on the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing), you have to wire it
first. This is explained in this section.

Parts of the male IP67 signal plug

The male IP67 signal plug is delivered with the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing. It must be attached to
the cable that connects the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing. The following figure shows the different
parts of the male IP67 signal plug:

Wiring the male IP67 signal plug

To attach the male IP67 signal plug to the cable, proceed as follows:

Step Action

1 Unscrew the 4 screws (2) that attach the connector block to the connector housing.

2 Take the connector block (1) out of the connector housing (3).

3 Unscrew the nut (6).

4 Remove the IP67 plate (5).

5 Slide the cable through the nut (6) and the wire transit (4) into the connector housing (3).

6 Wire the cable to the connector block (1). Refer to Lay-out of the female IP67 signal con-
nector on page 8.

7 Put the connector block (1) back into the connector housing and tighten the screws (2).

8 If the diameter of the cable is not big enough to seal the opening of the wire transit (4)
air- and watertight, then use the high temperature silicone paste (delivered with the Tel-
indus 1421 Outdoor Housing) to glue the cable into the wire transit (4). This will ensure
the IP67 quality. Proceed as follows:
1. Apply the high temperature silicone paste as indicated in the figure below.
2. Slide the nut over the wire transit.
3. Tighten the nut.

9 Tighten the nut (6). This nut ensures the IP67 quality.

10 Now plug the male IP67 signal plug you just wired into the female IP67 signal connector.

Connecting the IP67 power connector

Before you can plug the male IP67 power plug (delivered with the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing) into
the female IP67 power connector (present on the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing), you have to wire it
first. This is explained in this section.

Parts of the male IP67 power plug

The male IP67 power plug is delivered with the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing. It must be attached to
the power cable that connects the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing. The following figure shows the dif-
ferent parts of the male IP67 power plug:

Wiring the male IP67 power plug

To attach the male IP67 power plug to the cable, proceed as follows:

Step Action

1 Unscrew the nut (6).

2 Remove the IP67 plate (3).

3 Unscrew the connector housing (2) from connector block (1).

4 Slide the cable through the nut (6), the pressure ring (5), the wire transit (4) and the con-
nector housing (2).

5 Wire the cable to the connector block (1). Refer to Lay-out of the female IP67 power con-
nector on page 10.

6 Screw the connector housing (2) and the connector block (1) together.

7 If the diameter of the cable is not big enough to seal the opening of the wire transit (4)
air- and watertight, then use the high temperature silicone paste (delivered with the Tel-
indus 1421 Outdoor Housing) to glue the cable into the wire transit (4). This will ensure
the IP67 quality. Refer to step 8 of the procedure Wiring the male IP67 signal plug on
page 7.

8 Tighten the nut (6). This nut ensures the IP67 quality.

9 Now plug the male IP67 power plug you just wired into the female IP67 power connector.

Mounting the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing against a wall

There are 2 ways to mount the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing:


• by using the mounting feet.
• without using the mounting feet.

Mounting the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing

In order to mount the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing, proceed as fol-


lows:

Step Action

1 If you want to mount the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing …


• using the mounting feet, then proceed with step 2.
• without using the mounting feet, then first remove them (Removing the mounting feet
on page 11). Then proceed with step 2.

2 Use the bottom of the outdoor housing as reference to drill the holes in the wall:
• If you use the mounting feet, then use a pencil to mark the holes in the mounting feet
on the wall.
• If you do not use the mounting feet, then take a pencil and slide it into the holes where
the lid screws go in and mark these holes on the wall.

3 Drill 4 holes (with a depth of 50 mm) in the marked positions.

4 Insert the plugs (delivered with the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing) in the holes.

5 Use the 4 screws delivered with the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing to screw the Telin-
dus 1421 Outdoor Housing against the wall.

Removing the mounting feet

If you want to mount the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing without using the mounting feet, then you have
to remove them first. Proceed as follows:

Step Action

1 Unscrew the 4 screws that attach the lid to the bottom of the outdoor housing.

2 Remove the lid.

3 Use a flat screwdriver to unscrew the 4 screws that attach the mounting feet. They can
be reached at the bottom of the holes where the lid screws go in.

4 Remove the mounting feet.

5 Remove the screws from the holes.

Adding the security seal

The security seal delivered with the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing can be used to prevent strangers
from accessing the housing.
To add the security seal, proceed as follows:

Step Action

1 Slide the wire of the security seal through the holes in the security screw and through the
holes in the side of the outdoor housing.

2 Slide the wire into the lock. Once it is slid in, it cannot be removed again!

The dotted line illustrates how you have to attach the security seal:

If the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing needs to be opened, the seal must be cut. Use following informa-
tion to order a new seal:

Replacing the Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router

In order to replace the Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router in the Telindus 1421 Outdoor Housing, proceed as
follows:

Step Action

1 Loosen the screws that mount the lid to the bottom of the outdoor housing and remove
the lid.

When the security seal is present, it must be cut and removed.

2 Disconnect the cables inside the outdoor housing from the Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router.

3 Loosen the screws that mount the base plate to the bottom of the outdoor housing.

4 Lift the base plate on the side of the Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router and take it out of the
outdoor housing.

5 Slide the Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router backwards and then lift it upwards.

6 Slide the new Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router over the guides so that the bottom of the Tel-
indus 1421 SHDSL Router touches the base plate. Then slide the Telindus 1421 SHDSL
Router forward until it is firmly attached.

7 Fasten the screws that mount the base plate to the bottom of the outdoor housing.

Do not forget to also reconnect the earth wires to the earth screw!

8 Reconnect the cables inside the outdoor housing to the Telindus 1421 SHDSL Router.

9 Put the lid on the bottom of the outdoor housing and fasten the screws.
