1. . Who is Lumnay? Why is she considered the best dancer of the tribe?

Describe her role as a wife

to Awiyao.
Lumnay is Awiyao's former wife, a tough, graceful woman who is also an
industrious worker. Among all women, she have the most lightness and
grace, she dance like a bird tripping for grains on the ground,
beautifully timed to the beat of the gangsas. The men praise her supply
body, and the women envy the way she stretched her hands like the
wings of the mountain eagle now and then as she danced.
Awiyao describe him as a woman who is strong in planting beans, fast in
cleaning water jars, good at keeping a house clean. She is one of the best
wives in the
whole village according to awiyao. She was a loving wife to Awiyao, but
after the failure to give him an offspring, she has to suffer separation from the
love of her life.

2. Awiyao's decision to have a divorce with Lumnay and

marry Madulimay is due to his insecurity and unlikeness to other men in
theirtribe. He has no child that will inherit his possessions unlike
the other man.

According to the studies presented in the Ethnography of the major Ethnolinguistic groups in the
Cordillera, children are greatly desired among the Kalingas such that when a husband and a wife
are not able to bear a child, they divorce each other.

we can see how the kalinga’s tradition are unfair and very far to our tradition now
which is more open and equal to all genders .

If I will compare it to our tradition now, woman can’t be use just for the sake of giving a child to a
man. And with our generation, having no child is completely fine. People can’t judge you just
because you can’t bare a child. You can’t just file a divorce for a reason that you’re wife can’t bare
you a child or vice versa. And also, The Roman Catholic Church does not
recognise divorce. A marriage can only end when one partner dies or if there are
grounds for an annulment . A couple may be granted a civil divorce and
be divorced in the eyes of the state, but their marriage will continue 'in the eyes
of God'.
Yes. Love is great. Love is necessary. Love is beautiful. But love is
not enough. Love isn’t enough for any marriage. Marriage
encompasses so much more than love; communication, trust,
appreciation, patience, understanding, humor, and honesty. Love
is just the foundation.
Conflict
Awiyao has to leave lumnay and marry another woman. Despite
being a great wife, lumnay cant give him a child, it is said that
there is an unwritten law that a man may take another woman, if
his wife cant give him a child. Awiyao needs a child to affirm his
virility and to establish his place among his tribesmen so he
decided to leave lumnay and marry madumilay.

3. Between Awiyao and Lumnay, who do you think embodies a character same as yours? In what
aspects are you both similar? Why?
Between awiyao and lumnay, I must say that I embodies lumnay’s character because I am willing
to sacrifice all of me for the sake of the happiness of my loved ones. if that is the only chance
that I will make him happy, then, I will let him go willingly. Some people believe holding on and
hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more
strength to know when to let go and then do it. Remember, not all people around you are
meant to stay until the end.

Letting Love Go.

A self-sacrificial love

Awiyao and Lumnay is a long married couple from the Mountain tribes. Awiyao is going to
marry another woman, Madulimay, because Lumnay was not able to give him a child. Awiyao
went back home to see Lumnay because he didn't find her among the dancers at his
wedding. He wanted Lumnay to dance at his wedding for the last time but she cannot. On
their moment, there are many flashbacks about how Lumnay did her best to have a child,
through offering to the god, Kabunyan; and how Awiyao and Lumnay's love was as strong as
the river; but "it is just that a man must have a child", and he had to leave her. He promised
her that if he fails to have a child, he will come back to her. She wanted to protest against the
written rule that a man can marry another woman, so Lumnay went to the wedding dance.
But while seeing her husband married to another woman, she could not take it anymore and
just went to the mountain to clear away the beans she had thought about. And so Lumnay,
waiting for Awiyao a long time, thought of Awiyao's promise as she cleared away the
growing bean plants.

bakit gusto parin niyang manatili?
Kapag nalaman kong ayaw niya pa akong sukuan. Kapag nalaman
kong gusto niya parin ako ipaglaban kahit paulit-ulit.

In my experiences, gumawa ako ng paraan upang
It really takes time to forget.

Principles allow you
to live and work to your best while enabling others to understand the best
way to interact with you. When you behave in a manner which is
consistent with your principles, you feel confident and empowered. You
know that you are being true to who you are.

Para sa akin, kung ako ay papipiliin. Pipiliin ko ay ang prinsipyo A person who has
principles is a good, decent person. On the other hand, if you say
someone has no principles, that means they're dishonest, corrupt, or evil.

Principles are important because they allow you to have an overall feeling

of peace and guidance. They can give meaning and purpose to your life.
You are able to direct your behavior towards beneficial and fulfilling activities.

Art of letting go para sa kanta

Gangsas
The gangsas are culturally important. The sound of the gangsas represents the man in the wedding ceremony. Like the
gangsas, they are strong
and provide a beat to the dance, or a "beat to life".

Dancing
Culturally, the dancing is a celebration of happiness. It is also a show of sexuality by the women. Because Lumnay has not
produced a child, she
feels ashamed to dance and show herself to the other men, as she believes no one will look at her.

The Fire
The fire or flames signify the burning intensity of both love and hate that Lumnay feels in the situation. When Awiyao stirs
the embers in Lumnay’s
dark hut, he stirs up both of these feelings in her. Later, as Lumnay watches the bonfire from afar, her physical distance from
the fire reflects her
emotional separation from the man she loves.

The Beads
The beads in the story symbolize the promise that Awiyao made to Lumnay. They are also very precious and are worth 20
fields. The fact that
Awiyao gives them to Lumnay shows that he cherishes her, and that he still believes she has worth. Although Lumnay
rejects the hut and field
Awiayo offers her, she accepts the beads, suggesting her desire to remain connected to Awiyao.

The Floor
A number of times the narrator draws the reader’s attention to the rattan floor as Lumnay pulls it apart. This is symbolic of
their marriage
unraveling.

The Night
The nighttime setting symbolically adds to the darkness and isolation that Lumnay feels as she runs away from the village.
As she works her way
up the dark mountain alone, she is unable to envision a path to the future. The reader, too, is left in darkness with the
unresolved ending

the similarities of the wedding dance and dead stars are they both married someone they don’t
love, the boys didn’t get the chance to fight for their love because they are slave of their own fear.
Fear of getting judged by none other than, the society. Their differences is only the wedding dance
had a divorce. Awiyao loves his first wife but Alfredo loves his other woman than the original wife.
Unlike alfredo, awiyao never cheated, he was just forced to marry Madulimay because of their
tradition.

To be honest, I am not a believer of romantic relationships. I never see myself finding that what do
they call “the one”. Maybe because Im still in the phase of growing up and don’t really have time to
focus on that kind of things. But this journey will surely be a memorable one to me. I will admit that
the stories caught my attention. They are superb.
