Subject – Requests regarding notice vide File No.Z.20015/43/2021-ME-1

dated 3rd May 2021

Respected & Dear Sir,

We, the fnallyear resident doctors of India, have been the bac bone of covidl
care and nonlcovid care ever since the pandemic began. We have lost a lot of
our batchmates and family in the line of duty, but we stand frmly in our resolve
to fght the pandemic for the country.

The Honorable Prime Minister has recommended that the services of fnal year
residents (DNB, MD, MS, DM, MCh, MDS and Diploma) courses be extended so as
to ma e available more manpower to tac le the unprecedented pandemic crisis.

While we express our continued support in handling the crisis, we have the
following requests, regarding which we hold the utmost belief that our Prime
Minister will fulfll

1) That the Post graduate and Super speciality courses are for a fxed tenure,
and extensions were normally handed over as punishment for poor
performance or for attendance shortage. Currently, the forced extension
of the tenure, if not compensated with our requests would be a in to
‘imposed failure’, something which will be demoralizing upon us.

2) In this unprecedented COVID 19 situation, in the interest of the greater

good of the society we are wholeheartedly agreeing to serve till the next
batches of residents join, with eager anticipation that the following
requests will be granted as appreciation for our sacrifces and servicesl

a. Promotion of postlgraduate students (MD/ MS/ DNB/ Diploma) to

senior residents and postldoctoral students (MCh/DM/ DrNB) to next
level as soon as the scheduled tenure completion of 3 or 2 years
(whichever applicable), along with pay scale and other allowances
(whichever applicable)
b. Preparation for medical fnal examinations require our undivided
attention, and that could hinder our dedication towards covidlcare,
and vicelversa. Hence, we request a waiver of examinations, given
that even otherwise during the prelcovid era, the failure rates at
postlgraduate level is less than 5l10%.
c. To count COVID duties period against the Mandatory Service Bond
period of diferent state governments and authorities (wherever
applicable). For this purpose, the COVID duty period should be
counted in double as most of the resident doctors are doing double
duty (100 hours a wee ) compared to 48 hours a wee as
prescribed in Residency scheme of Government of India.

With Humble regards,

The Final Year Post Graduate Resident Doctors of India
