A. Read The following Dialogue! Pay attention to the bold words, phrases, or sentences!
Santi : So, what about you, Bayu? Do you have any plans?
Bayu : Definitely! My dad and I are going to go fishing. We plan to go fishing in a lake
near my uncle's house. Would you like to come with us?
Santi : I don't really like fishing. I would rather stay at home than go fishing. What about
you, Riri? What would you like to do on the long weekend?
Riri : I have made a plan with my mother about what to do on this long weekend. We
are going to practice baking cookies.
Bayu : Are you going to bake choco chips cookies like the other day?
Riri : Well, yes. That is my favourite. But we are going to try to make ginger cookies
too.
Riri : Oh, would you like to join me to learn baking cookies? You can come to my
house.
Bayu : It's a good idea! Or will you go fishing with me and my dad?
Santi : Uhm, not fishing I guess. But I think I would like to bake cookies with Riri.

Percakapan tersebut menggunakan ekspresi dalam bahasa Inggris yaitu invitation expression.
Invitation expression adalah kalimat yang digunakan untuk mengundang seseorang dalam
melakukan sesuatu atau mengajak seseorang untuk pergi ke suatu tempat.
Tujuan dari kalimat invitation adalah untuk mengajak seseorang.
Frase yang sering digunakan dalam kalimat invitation contohnya :
- Would you like to join us?
- I would like to invite you to the wedding
- Would you like to come...
- Could you join us?
- Could you come to...
- Let's jump together!
- Let's go to Ari's party!
Respon dari seseorang yang mendapatkan undangan yaitu dapat menerima invitation (Accepting
Invitation) atau menolak invitation (Declining Invitation).
Contoh frase yang digunakan untuk merespon undangan dari seseorang :
Menerima Invitation (Accepting Invitation)
- Thank you for inviting me.
- Yes, I would like to join.
- I'd like to come.
- Sure, I am coming.
Menolak Invitation (Declining Invitation)
- I'm afraid already had another plan.
- Unfortunately I can't join.
- I'm very sorry, I am not feeling well at the moment
- I'd like to join but...
C. In a group of four, answer the following questions based on the dialogue!
1. What is the social function of the text above?
Answer : It is to conveny a plan or something intended to do in the future.
2. What are the expressions used to tell the intentions from the text above?
 I would rather stay at home than go fishing

asking about intention involving social function, generic structure, and language
feature!
For say it use “be going to”, and for asking it use “would like”. The social function is to
tell what we are going to do. The generic structure is opening, intention (ask, answer) and
closing.

E. Use the correct expression based on the given context!

Answer : I am going to rent a minibus for travel.
2. What would you like to say when you want to tell your intention to rent a homestay for
your vacation?
 Answer : I am going to rent a homestay for my vacation.

Answer : What would you like to do on your birthday celebration?
4. What would you like to ask when you want to know your friends intention for school

Answer : What would you like to do for school night carnival?

appropiately completed with logical reason about it!

 Answer : Yes, be going to is used or prediction that we will do in the future while would
like is a wish to do something or ask something.
5. Explain the most possible situation on the usage of expression of intention?
Answer : When you are curious about you plan or want to back a flight or predict
something.
6. Look at the following picture, then say your intention on the basis of the picture! Provide
some more details in it!

lot of money on it.
7. Now with topic of birthday celebration, write a letter to your friend out of the town!
