Slice of Pie Beret Pattern

This is a nice quick and simple beret to knit up for a last minute present. It’s great for using up leftover yarn from a
sweater project – you need about one and a half standard 50g balls of DK yarn. The shaping gives the top the look of
a nicely sliced pie!

One size – fits an average to large head

Materials:

Approx 80g of DK yarn

1 x 40cm 4mm circular needle

Optional: 1 x 60cm 4 mm circular needle

1 set 4 mm dpns

Wool needle

Tension: 22st to 10cm

Method:

Band:

Using the 40cm 4mm circular needle, cast on 90 stitches

Work 1 row in *k1 p1* ribbing, then join. Leave the tail hanging as a marker for the start of the round. If you prefer
to place a stitch marker, place it before stitch #1.

Work 4 more rounds of ribbing as set.

Body:

Round 1: *Knit 9, Make 1 Right * repeat 9 times to beginning of round

Round 2 and all even rounds: knit

Round 3: *Knit 10, M1R*

Round 5: *Knit 11, M1R*

Switch to the 60cm circular needle when comfortable (optional)

Continue increasing as set until Round 17: *Knit 17, M1R* after which there will be 180 stitches (18 per repeat).

Knit 7 rounds without shaping

Round 25: *Knit 16, k2tog*

Round 27: *Knit 15, k2tog*

Round 29: *Knit 14, k2tog*

Switch back to the 40cm circular needle when comfortable (optional)

Continue decreasing until Round 51, after which there will be 40 stitches

Divide stitches between DPNs and continue decreasing until Round 57, after which there will be 10 stitches.

Break the yarn off leaving a long tail, thread onto a wool needle and draw through the remaining 10 stitches.
Remove the stitches from the needles and draw the wool tight, fasten off inside.

Weave in the ends and wear it! I don’t usually block these but a dinner plate works well if you want to.
