Why can soft ropes hold up the object and make it levitate?

It’s in equilibrium, which is when:

- the forces acting on it are balanced

- the moment caused by the forces are balanced

Moment of force: it’s the turning effect caused by a force, for example when you push a door to open it.

Newton’s first law of motion: when net force=0, it’s velocity (speed) will not change, if it is at rest then it
will remain at rest.

For example, when a box is put on the ground, its weight is equal to the support force provided by the
ground, net force=0 and the forces acting on it is said to be balanced. Originally it was not moving, so it
will continue to stay there.
Principle of moments: when the clockwise and anticlockwise moment acting on an object are equal, the
object will not turn.

For example, when object A and B are put on a seesaw, the weight of A creates an anticlockwise
moment and the weight of B creates a clockwise moment, now they are balanced and the seesaw will
not turn.

Forces involved: weight, tension provided by the ropes
