Tools and Equipment Activity


Objective
Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to correctly identify basic tools that are used in
automotive shops.

Follow all procedures and safety guidelines specified by your instructor.
Directions
Check off the boxes  when completed. When you see a hand  next to the task, write the
information in the activity journal. If you have any questions during the duration of this activity,
stop and ask the instructor for assistance.
Procedure
 Listen to your instructor’s description and demonstration on how to handle and use
various automotive hand tools.
 Listen to your instructor’s description regarding the specific cleaning, storing, and
maintenance of the shop tools.
 Listen to your instructor’s demonstration on how to use the shop’s precision
measuring tools.
 Listen to your instructor’s demonstration on how to properly use fender covers and
mats to protect a customer’s vehicle.

 Your instructor will have 40 tools displayed for you to identify. Each tool will be
labeled with a number (e.g., 1, 2, 3).
 Each student will be at a different tool. You will have one minute to inspect and
identify the tool.
 Once you have identified the tool, write its correct name and function in your activity
journal next to the corresponding number.
 Rotate every minute to identify the next tool until you have identified all the tools that
your instructor displayed.
 At the end of the rotation, your instructor will assign you a tool. When called on, you
will be required to identify the assigned tool and describe/demonstrate how it is used.
 Clean up and put away all tools.
