 Introduction

This finale work belong to the subject Didactics of English. It is about

choosing two teaching methods and compare them. I chose to
describe the Direct Instruction and Kinesthetic Learning. A teaching
method comprises the principles and methods used by teachers to
enable student learning. These strategies are determined partly on
subject matter to be taught and partly by the nature of the learner. For
a particular teaching method to be appropriate and efficient it has to be
in relation with the characteristic of the learner and the type of learning
it is supposed to bring about.
 The Direct Instruction and Kinesthetic Learning
Direct Instruction
Direct instruction is the use of
straightforward, explicit teaching
techniques, usually to teach a specific
skill. It is a teacher-directed method,
meaning that the teacher stands in
front of a classroom and presents the
information. It might be a lesson in
which the teacher very clearly outlines
the order of all the planets in the solar
system, or it might be a simple
explanation and some examples of the
double ff-ll-ss-zz spelling rule.
You might be thinking, isn't that how
everything is taught in classrooms?
Yes, this used to be true, but then we
found that not all students benefit
from listening to a teacher talk all day
and that not all lessons are best
taught through direct instruction.
Teachers now match the type of
instruction to the task, teaching
directly when it suits the skill being
taught. For example, the order of the
planets is something best learned
directly, while teaching what materials
are magnetic is better learned.
Kinesthetic Learning
Kinesthetic learning (American English),
kinaesthetic learning (British English), or tactile
learning is a learning style in which learning takes
place by the students carrying out physical
activities, rather than listening to a lecture or
watching demonstrations. As cited by Favre (2009),
Du nn and Dunn define kinesthetic learners as
students who require whole-body movement to
process new and difficult information.
Depending upon memory systems the kinesthetic
learners respond differently. The different kinds of
learners mainly include whole body learners,
hands-on learners, doodlers, students learning
through emotional experiences. The learning and
the memory is generally short term. To achieve a
long term memory different techniques can be
used depending on the learning style. Mind
mapping, story mapping, webbing, drawing can be
used to enhance the learning of a doodler. For the
hands-on learner, role play, clay, building and math
manipulative can be used. The whole book body
learner can learn better through role-playing, body
mapping, puzzles and use of computer technology
which allows for certain movement while learning.
 Conclusion

It was a good, fantastic, amazing, interested and great because I could know more
about teaching methods. A teaching method comprises the principles and methods
used by teachers to enable student learning. In general usage, the term direct
instruction refers to instructional approaches that are structured, sequenced, and led
by teachers.
