Corruption is one of the major dilemmas of every country around the world, it is a never-
ending problem and none of us can think of a way how we are going to eradicate it. The most
common definition of corruption is the abuse of the entrusted power for personal gain, according
to Paolo Mauro corruption has been around for a very long time and will be around also in the
future unless the government can think throughout of it (1997). There are different forms of
corruption and it includes bribery, embezzlement, backdoor deals, nepotism, and the misuse of
government power for their personal gains. Aristotle defined corruption as the practice of leaders
Who rule with a vision to their advantage rather than the pursuit of the public interest.
Corruption in the Philippines is a serious social issue that we all face today and one of the
results of the immoral act is poverty where it is very evident that the Philippines is considered
poor because of the lack of resources for basic needs. One of the reasons for the persistent
corruption of the Philippines is the weak justice system or sometimes they called “Justice
buried”, Philippines justice is tenable and most Filipinos are losing respect to the system and
hope for a better government. Our Justice system can enforce the law against the other cases but
ineffective against the corrupt government officials, the ones who created the laws are the ones
who are abusing it because they can simply control the justice system of the Philippines and
cannot be made accountable for their unethical acts. There are times that our justice system
works, just like where our former Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was charged with a plunder
case in relation to the misuse of three hundred sixty-six million pesos in PCSO intelligence funds
from 2008 to 2010, she was found guilty before but despite that fraud that she did, she was the
adviser of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte for Clark projects. That case was just one of the cases regarding
the government officials who went to jail for corruption and still had the guts to run in
government positions to lead again.
Corruption separates the people from the government because everyone knows that taking
money from someone for your benefit is not legal. The government is persistent in fighting
against corruption but they are the ones who are corrupting, President Rodrigo Duterte is
persistent fighting against corruption but there was still a lot of money were taken from the
Government, in particular the PhilHealth corruption where we lost fifteen Billion pesos that
could have been used for government hospitals and other helpful projects for the Filipinos.
People with power will do everything to stay in their position even if it is against the law,
corruption in the Philippines is still persistent because there will always have extensive bribery
with the administration and manipulation by public officials.
As a student I must know the real meaning of corruption and how it works, because it is a
must to know what I am against to, the more information that I know the more I can think of a
solution. We, students are important for the progress of our country, in this generation we are
influential since there are easy ways to address the issue by using the internet to spread the
platform about anti- corruption. If the government cannot think of a solution to eradicate
corruption, maybe by reminding them that there are laws that they should follow and make the
government officials see if they are being unfair by their decisions. Students have the capabilities
to get involved in combatting corruption through small steps, in a school setting where we
student should not cheat, obey the rules and regulation of our university and respect the people
not only the other students but also the professors and other employees of our school. Because I

know in that way, we can establish a well justice system in the future and I also believe that
small things give a big different. As what Dr. Rizal said “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan”
