Descriptive questions:
PART I
From Part I solve any One entire question from Q1 and Q2 [Q1 A and Q2 B is
not allowed]

Q.1-A) In standardization of 0.1 N NaOH, burette readings obtained (4M)

were as follows. Are the mean burette readings on the two
days significantly different from each other at 95% confidence
limit? (Tabulated ‘t value’ at 95% confidence limit is 2.365)
Day 1 15.6 15.5 15.7 15.9 15.3

Day 2 15.3 15.5 15.4 16 -

B) Enlist the detectors used in XRD. Explain any one detector (4M)
with a well labelled diagram.

Q.2-A) Analyze the given chemical reaction: (4M)

Tabulate the prominent IR stretch frequencies that will be

visible in the spectrum of the reactant and the product. Which
of these wavenumber/s will indicate the formation of the
product?
B) Write a note on the Liquid scintillation counter. (4M)

PART II
From Part II solve any FOUR entire questions from Q3, Q4, Q5, Q6, and Q7

Q.3-A) The molar absorptivity of a drug X at its wavelength maxima (4M)

is 10000 and its molecular weight is 200. A solution of X
gives an absorbance of 0.8 at its wavelength maxima in a 1cm
cell. Calculate concentration of X in the solution. Report
answer in %w/v.

B) Write a short note on a 99m Tc generator. (4M)

Q.4-A) Write a note on sample handling techniques used in: (4M)

a. Dispersive IR instruments
b. ATR instruments

B) Discuss the determination of pKa of a weak monobasic acid

using pH metry.

Q.5-A) What is the role of wavelength selectors in UV - Visible (4M)

spectrophotometer? Enlist wavelength selectors used in UV -
Visible absorption spectroscopy. Discuss any one.

B) Discuss principle involved and application of DSC. (4M)

Q.6-A) Enumerate and discuss any four factors affecting fluorescence (4M)
intensity.

B) Explain Stokes, Antistokes and Rayleigh scattering with (4M)

reference to Raman Spectroscopy with the help of energy
transition diagram.

Q.7-A) Give any two points of differentiation between AAS and AES. (4M)

B) With the help of an energy level diagram explain the (4M)
phenomenon of absorption of UV - Visible radiation by
molecules.
