Overview

UNCLASSIFIED
UNCLASSIFIED

IQC is a ten-day course which provides a foundation of instructorship and learning theory
necessary to successfully develop, instruct, and/or conduct multiple layers of training
such as Continuation Training (CT), Differential Training (DT), Individual Training (IT),
Advanced Training (AT) and Mission Qualification Training (MQT) in both the
classroom and simulator environment.

IQC Goal

Qualify spacecrew member as an instructor in their weapon system and crew position by
focusing primarily on the candidate’s increased weapon system knowledge and
instructional ability.

Course Objectives

Upon graduating from IQC, students will be able to:

 Describe fundamentals of instruction to include but not limited to: Learning

Theory, Bloom’s Taxonomy and the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model
 Demonstrate documentation of training on Patriot Excalibur (PEX)
 Operate and configure the Standard Space Trainer (SST) simulator and ops floor
emulators (e.g. SITS, OMEPs)
 Summarize weapons system knowledge to the subsystem level for Tactics,
Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) and Advanced Training
 Develop, conduct and administer mission planning, briefing, execution and
debriefing phases

III. Academic Policies and Procedures

Attendance Policy

Student attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. Students are expected to be on

time to all lessons. Absences from class time must be pre-approved by the
government instructor. Routine medical/dental appointments should NOT be
scheduled during class time. Unexcused absences can result in elimination from the
course. Students missing more than 10% of course hours will be assessed and a
recommendation forwarded to the SBIRS Chief of Training for dismissal by an
Elimination Board. The Elimination Board is comprised of the SBIRS Chief of
Training/Flight Chief, DEL 4/S3 Directorate and 460 OSS/DO.

Course Material
Students will receive access to a copy of the courseware at the end of the first day of
class. Paper copies of unclassified courseware may be distributed or made available upon
student request. Students who wish to study unclassified material outside of the
classroom should print copies of the courseware before leaving the SCIF.

Evaluations

Instructor-candidates will be evaluated through a variety of assessments to determine

students’ retention and demonstration of knowledge.

Official measurements:

1. Summative Assessment – There are two summative assessments during this course.
The first written test evaluates general instructor comprehension at the end of
Training Day (TD) 3. This test will consist primarily of short answer and essay-based
questions. Minimum passing score is 80%. The second written test is crew/cell-
specific and will be tested at the end of TD 7. This test will consist primarily of short
answer and essay based questions. Minimum passing score is 80%.
2. Instructor Evaluation – This hands-on demonstration evaluates instructor-candidate’s
ability to instruct in the following areas:
a. Conducting/administering mission planning, briefing, execution, and
debriefing lesson plans
b. Developing and instructing a lesson plan in relevant mission area
c. Conduct training session and/or scenario to training audience
d. Complete a ProVal component in relevant mission area

Unofficial measurements:

1. Formative Assessments – Informal and ungraded Q&A occurring throughout the

course to evaluate student comprehension of the lesson objectives.

2. In-class demonstration / Pre-Eval – In-class demonstration or pre-eval will cover

material taught the previous training day, or will be spot-checked during the lesson.
This demonstration is intended to test the student’s comprehension of the subject by
providing the opportunity to “tac teach” the instructor, other students, and/or other
guest instructors.

Academic Freedom
Academic freedom is the privilege of debate with discretion on any subject related to the
DEL 4/S3 curriculum within the classroom. Guest lecturers, faculty, and students are
encouraged to support or criticize any objective, policy, or opinion in the pursuit of
knowledge and understanding, but with dignity, respect and professionalism.

Non-Attribution Policy
Non-attribution is defined as treating statements made in a school forum (including but
not limited to seminar discussion, CD-ROM, and online) as privileged information and
not attributing these statements to a specific individual.

Non-attribution policy: Statements, disagreement, and other comments made by

individuals or groups in the school forum are safeguarded through the practice of non-
attribution. It is acceptable to say a "previous speaker" made a particular statement, but
the speaker's name will not be divulged.

Instructor-Student Relations
Students are encouraged to consult with instructors concerning problems with subject
matter, grade computations or academic assignments and resolve them at the lowest
possible level. The IQC instructors are entirely interested in student success, and will
make every effort to help resolve any issues. The chain of command for resolving
academic matters starts with the instructor, then proceeds to the Flight Commander/Flight
Chief, DEL 4/S3 Directorate, 460 OSS/DO then 460 OSS/CC.
