Lesson: Past Simple Tense – Practice –
Time: 50 minutes
Type of lesson: Practicing previous knowledge; reinforcement lesson
Skills: Writing, speaking, listening, reading
Main aim of the lesson:
- to consolidate the use of past simple when talking about past situations
Subsidiary aims:
- to improve listening, reading comprehension, writing and speaking skills in
connection to past simple actions
- to encourage students to express a personal opinion about singers and types of
music
- to improve group work
Personal aims:
- to offer clearer examples and more relevant exercises
- to create a relaxing, motivating atmosphere in the classroom
Timetable fit:
- students have been practising the past simple tense of regular and irregular verbs
for the past lessons. Consolidating their knowledge about past actions is the next
step, before introduction new grammatical structures
Assumptions:
- students already have some knowledge about the use and form of past simple and
about types of music, so completing the tasks should not be a problem
Anticipated problems:
- students may have difficulties when pronouncing the ending “-ed” for regular
verbs and they may not remember the past simple form of certain irregular verbs;
to solve the problems the teacher can remind them the pronunciation rules and to
find the past simple form of certain irregular verbs they can look at their personal
list of verbs or ask the teacher.
