Introduction:

Linguistics is the science of language, and linguists apply the scientific method to questions about the
nature and function of language. It is a human science, in fact, one of the foundational disciplines in the
western intellectual tradition, and may be compared with programs such as sociology, psychology or
anthropology. Linguists conduct formal studies of speech sounds, grammatical structures, and meaning
across all over the world.

Linguistics; A Discipline of Particular interest and a given subject matter:

The discipline of linguistics focuses on theories of language structure, variation and use, the description
and documentation of contemporary languages, and the implications of theories of language for an
understanding of the mind and brain, human culture, social behavior, and language learning and
teaching.

Apart from simply understanding the intricacies of world languages, this knowledge can be applied to
improving communication between people, contributing to translation activities, assisting in literacy
efforts, and treating speech disorders.

Beside this it can be dangerous as well, in future. Steven Pinker a Canadian Psycholinguist in one of his
YouTube lectures stated that “Linguistics is a window to the human mind”. So, if we get all the
information about the human mind that how it works, then we can control them and with this human
will become walking weapons. In everyday life we can see various examples of this, in presidential
speeches and higher authorities.

Conclusion:

As per the above discussion it is concluded that linguistics is a discipline of particular interest and a given
subject matter.
