CASE ANALYSIS - Entrepreneurial Marketing Strategy PUPQC

Title: Business Challenges in this Contemporary Times

Mr. G. Anid, who finished grade 3 in elementary is a successful businessman in his own self and
belief. An astute traditional businessman for more that 25 years, owned 3 restaurants, dealer of
organic fertilizers, and supplier local/ domestic food supplement products. All based in Metro
Manila. He is a single proprietor in all these businesses.

With the three (3) restaurants he is operating located in different cities, namely Muntinlupa,
Malabon and Marikina, he hired only one manager/supervisor, providing transportation service
(with the contract to sell thru installment ) a secondhand motorcycle only, to monitor the
operations, activities of the employees and the volume of customers. The manager is doing his
duties four (4) times a week.

In his restaurants, he employs 90 % students and 10% came from far flung province (who did
not even have the chance of formal education and taking advantage of their credulity) to do
away with the possibility of forming a labor organization (union). The salaries are below the
minimum wage. Mr. G. Anid also mastered the craft of evading the senior citizen’s and pwd’s
discount privileges.

He hired Human Resources Officer, Mr. Guapo whose eyes is that of the tiger look and face that
only a mother could love for purposes of using to create fear, served as a rubber stamp and
camouflage the illegal termination of employees.

With regard to his business of fertilizer located in public market, his only competitor is his
kumpadre, Mr. P. Atas, whose store is symmetrically positioned to his. He is very jealous of him
especially when it comes to customers. And for this, he attempted several times to sabotage his
kumpadre’s business. One is, unreasonably lowering the price of his products.

He is not sensitive to what people would say about his attitude and character. Not to even his
own family. He has such a very low emotional quotient. He does not have any remorse in those
worldly and destitute things. He is just focus only in one thing – money and more profits
whatever it takes. He often laughs and mocks those marketing graduates whose successes in
business is not the same or level as he has.

The Law of Nature sometimes cannot endure things going on for so long a time. With the
unwelcome visitor arrived in the Philippines from Wuhan last year 2020, Covid 19 suddenly and
surreptitiously attacked painfully and without mercy, (left and right, rich or poor), and even the
most powerful and strong people are not being spared.
With thousand businesses all across the countries adversely affected by this pandemic, by the
twist of fate and where the smile of fortune frown upon Mr. G. Anid, was directly hit and
greatly affected by this invisible enemy especially his most treasured businesses where for him,
are totality of his life (not his family) and where his world is moving around.

Devastated and confused, Mr. G. Anid could not find solution to his problem. Since the very
beginning he was skeptical and eschewed the fundamentals of marketing strategies especially
by the fact that he is neither interested nor fascinated at the outset in the so-called online
marketing.

His business reversed condition is aggravated by the fact that he is operates his businesses in
one-man show. He felt the need of God and people this time. For weeks, he was staringly to a
blank wall of his empty room, trying to figure our what went wrong.

These things did not pass unnoticed on his best friend keen eyes and understanding soul, Mr.
Wori, who happened to be the neighbor of three (3) 3 rd year Entrep students studying in notable
State University. They are Mr. Malasakit, Ms Masipag and Mr. Matalino. These three excelled in
their online classes not because they are the cream of the crop or the brightest in their section
but their study ethics are exemplar and working hard in their subjects as if there no more
tomorrow. Aside from their parents, they are inspired in their professors especially to one prof
who looks like Piolo Pascual.

Mr. Wori approached them to solicit for an advised and assistance for his repentant best friend,
Mr. G. Anid who displayed a total change of heart.

The three (3) promising entrepreneurs accepted the request but posed conditions that Mr. G.
Anid will follow all the design of their game plans in restructuring and re-engineer to rebuild his
business in humane, fair and God abiding fashion.

QUESTIONS:

1. If you are in the shoes of Mr. Malasakit, how do you find the kind and nature of
businesses of Mr. G. Anid?
2. What do you perceive the unlikely side or activities of Mr. G. Anid that may badly affect
his businesses in the long run even though Covid 19 did not happen to this world?
Identify them.
3. If you are Ms Masipag, what will be your suggestion/s with respect the need of
associates
in helping rebuild his business as far as marketing plan is concerned?
4. What are the situations you perceive and believe to be that run afoul the basic tenets of
marketing strategies?
5. Assume that you are Mr. Matalino, what would be the initial steps you are going to
recommend to Mr. G. Anid applying the Principles of Entrepreneurial Marketing
Strategies and why?
6. Combine the brains of these three, how can you sell these local food supplements
effectively where people will tend to prioritize food as basic necessity especially many
are presently lost their job because of this pandemic? And how can you sell all his other
products considering that he is used to traditional and direct selling amid the very
limited face to face transaction of selling?

Guide on Steps in Solving Case Analysis

A lot of preliminary work needs to be done before an analyst is ready to write a report on a
case. The following steps are suggested to be able to come up with satisfactory analysis.

1. Read the case for the first time to get a general idea of the situation and the problem.
2. Read the case for the second time: this time to correct the wrong impressions which may
have
arisen after the first reading; and get more solid idea of the problem situation.
3.Read the case the third time; this time take note of the pertinent facts which may hold the
key to problem identification and solution.

Define the problem. This step is crucial to the whole analysis. The kind of problem you solve
will depend on the kind of problem you have identified.

Set your objectives for the solution of the problem.” What do I want to accomplish?”- is the
question you need to ask yourself. Put it another way, you should decide the characteristics of
the solution you want.

Outline the alternative courses of action. A problem may be solved in many ways. Enumerating
the possible courses of action will eliminate the possibility of leaving out other solutions which
may work well with the problem.

Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative courses of action. If possible,
express these in terms of saving and losses.

Recommend a decision. After the alternatives have been examined, and those which produce
more disadvantages than advantages have been eliminated, recommend that the alternative
which offers more advantages than disadvantages be adopted.

Suggest specific steps to implement the decision.
