DECELERATOR CHARACTERISTICS
NOV M/D Totco's Decelerator is designed to limit the
impact shocks applied to ‘go-deviled’ sonde based
instrumentation tools which house sensitive elec-
tronics and sensors. The device utilizes a linear
hydraulic braking mechanism to arrest the terminal
velocity motion of the instrument bearing assembly
in a controlled manner.
A typical decelerator characteristic, when arresting a
70 kg sonde assembly, is displayed in the charts as
shown.
For a 2000 ft/min terminal velocity the impact shock
imparted on the assembly is only 33 g.
The decelerator is available in 1¾" and 13/8" diameter
