Title (What is this one-pager exploring?): Synthesis

Topic: Obviously the first thing to do is know the topic. It may be tempting to
just read the prompt and not the background information, but that is a rookie
mistake. It is important to understand why the prompt is being asked, not just
the prompt. By the time you are done reading the topic make your decision right
then and there.

Notice every detail

Sources: When reading a source it is vital you
understand the context of the source. Where
did the source come from, who was it written
by, when did it come from? These are
questions to ask while reading the source.
Once it comes to supporting you don’t want
to grab the source out of context which would
be a detriment to your entire essay. It sends a
bad message to the grader.
Citing: The grader doesn’t want to read other people’s
works, they want to read the essay. They already know the
sources because they gave them to you. When citing a
source, make sure to keep it as concise as possible, and
understand the context to not say the wrong thing. Then
cite them correctly just use parenthetical citations after
the quote and you can even say the letter of the source, but
be sure to cite at least three separate sources through your
essay

Reading: Ap gives out a bunch of sources to sift through and then write an essay. You want
as much time as possible writing the essay instead of reading through the sources. To start
out you want to make your opinion on the topic before you read the sources. Once you start
reading a source and see that it doesn’t support your opinion, skip over
it. Half the sources will not help you, so by skipping it you're cutting out
the time by half.

Throw out source B it supports racism

Commentary: This should be the meat
and potatoes of the essay. Everything else
should look miniscule compared to this.
Your commentary should not summarize
what your source said. They already know
what it said, they care about what you
think.
Have a sentence that leads into your evidence not
just straight from topic to evidence
Evidence proves blank because (explain how
evidence proves the claim)
blend the quote into the sentences like you aren’t
even quoting anything.
Good commentary is loaded with cause and effect
language.
