SCENE – FRONT YARD LAWN

NARRATOR: In the year 2020 at Baranggay Mabolo, there built a house of God nga naa’y front yard.
And in that front yard, a farmer planted no ordinary plants. These are plants nga kabalo
mo-fight against the filthy, devouring zombies outside the lawn. These are plants fed
with special ingredient called Sun, from which they get their solar power to defend the
infantry. These are warrior plants. They may not look like warrior plants, but behind
their graceful, sweet faces, they are soldiers.

But one morning, a news came through the radio nga mag lockdown because of the
Covid 19 starts to invade the whole world, a pandemic. The good news is, all the
zombies are quarantined. But the bad news is, we don’t know how long, and when they
are coming back.

JOREL: Good morning, Lord! Good morning, Sunshine!

JEWEL: Unsa’y naka-good sa morning ba? Wala ka kadungog sa balita? Pandemic man ron!

JEWEL: Oo. Sagdi lang sa siya. Magbreakfast na ta na! Init kaayo ang Sun oh.

JOREL: Kamo lang sa siguro. Busog pa man ko.

JOVELYN: Ha? Unsa diay imong gikaon?

JOREL: Wala man. Nawala lang gyud akong gana.

JEWEL: Hala Wall Nut, ayaw gyud pag-ingana. Ni-greet man gani ka’g good morning ni Sun.

JOREL: Expression raman to gud. Ug total, dako man ko so dili ko dali ma-consume.

Mag breakfast nata. Saw-a ug tarong ang mga sun ha? Ready?

JOVELYN: Sige, ready!

JEWEL and JOVELYN catching sun by the projector screen.

JOREL: Wa pa gyud sila mapul-an sa Sun sa? Puol naman seg balikbalik ana oy.

JANE ROSE: (yawns) Oy, good morning wall nut! Mana naka’g breakfast?

JOREL: Ay sge lang. Busog pa ko. Ikaw? Basin ganahan ka?

JANE ROSE: Bag-o pa man gud kong mata so medyo wala pa gyud ko’y gana pod.

JOREL: Ako ra ba ang napul-an sa Sun?

JANE ROSE: Hmmm.. murag o, ikaw ra.

JOREL: Atik George! Bag-o pa gani kang gasulti nga wa kay gana.

JANE ROSE: Alangan kay bag-o pa gani kong mata!

JOVELYN: Oy, Pea-shooter! Mata naman diay ka! Ali na!

JANE ROSE: Binli lang ko ninyo. Unya ra ko. Bag-o pa man gud kong mata.

JEWEL: Di gyud na pwede, pea-shooter. Di ka dapat maglangay langay! Dapat mukaon jud ta sa
Sun so we can be stronger ug dili ta dali nga mapildi sa mga zombies.

JOREL: Ha! Zombies… Quarantined nato sila oy! Pandemic raba ron.

JOVELYN: Nganong negative kayka wall nut?

JOREL: Kay wa na’y lami ang Sun. Wa mo kabantay sa nga sige ra’g balikbalik atong meal? Ang
mga tanom gani sa silingan naa pa sila’y fertilizer, chemical spray, ug uban pang lami nga
pampabusog. Unya atoa, SUN?!

JEWEL: Ayaw nalang ug reklamo, Wall nut.

giquarantine sila. Mao na, dapat mag prepare ta daan.

JOREL: Aw kamo dapat magprepare. Di man mo wall nut parihas nako--- dugay mahurot!

NARRATOR: The other plants enjoyed the Sun for many days and they grew stronger every time they
eat the Sun. But Wall Nut remained stagnant. He didn’t grow.
Suddenly, he became weaker
and weaker each day nga magsige nalang siya ug katulog. He would even miss their

But the most fearful time has come, in the dark and quiet midnight as the plants are
sleeping tight.
People scream.

JANE ROSE: Hala! Unsa to?!

Zombies growling.

JEWEL: PLANTS! PAG-ANDAM NAMO!

JOREL: Ayaw mo’g kabalaka! Ako’y musagang! Padaplin mo bi. Magpa-atubangan ko!

JOVELYN: Wall nut, ayaw! Wala kaayo ka nikaon ug Sun! Dali ra ka mahurot!

JOREL: Salig lang, dili lagi!

Zombies enter the scene.

AARON: (growl) disgrace.

OTHER Z: disgrace!!

Zombies attack. Plants defend. The Plants were successful.

ZOMBIES: Barog mo! Wa’y magluyaluya! Kaya ra nato ni sila! (growl)

Zombies attack. Plants defend. Zombies attack to JOREL first, starting to consume him.

JOREL: AAAAHH!!!! AGAYYYY!

OTHER P: WALL NUT!! (Keeps attacking the zombies)

Zombies start to become weak, until they die.

PLANTS: YEHEY!!!

NARRATOR: The plants have successfully defended their lawn, but not their friend Wall Nut.

PLANTS: Wall nuttt!! (approach wall nut, lying on the floor) Makasturya pa ka? Wall nut!!

JOREL: (very weak) makasturya pako..

Sun.

NARRATOR: Abiders, let’s understand the story that we have today. The plants are us, believers, who
are enlisted in the army of God. We ought to grow to become fit in what God has called
us to do.

The Sun is the word of God. The plants must be fed by the sun so they will grow strong
and healthy. Kita pod dapat, Christians. We need to be fed by the Word of God through
reading God’s word day and night, and living by the Word of God, so we can grow in our
Christian life. Wall Nut is an example of most of us who don’t trust God’s word anymore.
So, the zombies represent sins. They completely consumed Wall Nut because he was
too weak to fight. The weaker and further we are from God’s word, the more vulnerable
we are to sin. Sin devours us. Sin eats us. But if we are filled with the word of God, sin
cannot overtake us. We can overcome sin by God’s word.

Let this be an important realization for us, abiders, that without God, we can do nothing.
Apart from God’s word, we are weak and easily tempted.

2 Peter 3:18 KJV

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be
glory both now and for ever. Amen.
