measurements in accordance with [L2 or [L3 as applicable, shall be not less than the value given in the
appropriate construction table or, for cables with a non-preferred number of cores, the value igg calculated
in accordance with 6.6.3.2, and the smallest of the measured values shall not fall below the value by more
than 15 96+ ill mm.
6.6.3.2 For cables specified in Table 13, but with a non-preferred number of cores, the radial thickness, tgg,
in millimetres [mm] of the outer sheath shall be as calculated by the following equation:
E53 = -il.ilS.D5 + 0.4
with a rna.xirnutn value of 2.-1 mm,
WIIBIB

Hg is the fictitious diameter over the screen, calculated by adding together the fictitious diameter under
the braid DB {calculated as specified in 6.5} and four times the relevant value for the maaimiun
diameter of the copper wires {as specified in 6tE).
6.6.4. Colour
The colour of the sheath shall be as specified in the appropriate construction table. The colour shall be
throughout the whole of the sheath or on its surface.

investigation forms both the inner conductor of an energized coaxial system and, at the same time, the outer
conductor of another coaxial line. The signal in the inner coaxial system is caused by the surface transfer
impedance of the screen.
Thecable withthescreentobemeusurcdisterrrtinat.edatoneendbyaresistance,thevalue ofwhichis
numerically equal to the characteristic impedance ofthe screen The terminal resistance is shielded by a metal
sleeve the edge of which, at the open end, ls soldered to the screen. The terminal resistance and the cable are
coaxially mounted inside a metal tube. This tube is terminated at the side opposite the resistance by a
short-cireuiting disc, which is soltlerod to the screen (see Figure ill].
The length of the cable in the metal tube shall not exceed ill.-l to 0.3-5.-l according to the measuring equipment
used, where}. is the wavelength correspondingto the frequency of the test apparatus. The length ofthe
cable is of no r"|'1-t1bPr|llt=nII'E‘

The generator feeds the outer coaxial system through a pure resistance (R) which, to brat advantage, should be
equal to about 1,4 times the value ot' the characteristic impedance of the outer coaxial system. 'I‘he input voltage
to the rmistance is measured by means of a suitable voltmeter. The output voltage of the ituter coaxial system,
which is formed by the cable proper, is measured by means of a matched voltmeter.
The transfer impedance, 5|; in ohms per metre [firm] shall be calculated from the following equation:
