    SOAPStone Activity

    Directions: Read the selection you have been assigned. Refer to your SOAPStone handout to
    fill in the chart below.

    TITLE:The Clan of One Breasted Woman AUTHOR: Terry Tempest Williams


    SUBJECT
    Her and her family who has had cancer passed down several times.

    OCCASION It takes place around the 1950’s in California. She describes see the
    bomb that hit Utah but not ever knowing that it was a bomb.
    Contaminating everything causing the cancer to form and be passed
    along.

    AUDIENCE
    I believe this is directed towards the people living under the same
    circumstances in California at the time, or just woman in general.

    PURPOSE
    To share her story and her life with others and to also make people
    aware of the nuclear testing going on that is affecting people.

    SPEAKER The speaker is the author, Terry Tempest Williams, speaking in first
    person.

    TONE The tone used in this paper is more relaxed as it paints a description of
    what is going on in the story for the reader to picture what is going on.
