    Directions: Read the selection you have been assigned. Refer to your SOAPStone handout to
    fill in the chart below.

    TITLE: Salvation AUTHOR: Langston Hughes


    SUBJECT
    A young boy in church waiting to be see Jesus to be saved and never
    seeing him.

    OCCASION
    In a church full of people the children were brought together to come to
    the alter and be saved.

    AUDIENCE
    He is writing this to share his story and his experience for anyone to
    read. More specifically the audience may be anyone in the same
    religion.

    PURPOSE
    The purpose of this is to share his story and his experience as a kid
    growing up in this religion. It is not to convince or persuade anyone of
    anything.
    SPEAKER
    The speaker is Langston Hughes talking in first person about when he
    was a kid.

    TONE
    The tone in this paper is clear and organized. Using specific words and
    phrases to have different impacts on the reader.
