Theme: Jesus Presence

Speci c: Three years ago, it happened at Lipa, on a Saturday morning. I put up all my courage,
to talk to this brother, with whom I was so angry and upset. We didn’t talk for some days and
didn’t even bothered to look at each other face to face. It was not easy to talk about what went
wrong with us. Both of us tried to set aside our own pride, our own justi cation and were able
to talk and listen to each other.

That night after the night prayer, before going to our respective rooms, we smiled at each other
and that moment I felt Jesus’s presence and his voice saying, it was not you who reconciled
with each other, but allowing me once again to be with you.

A similar happened incident happened in the life of the saint that we celebrate today. St Martin
from the city of Tours in France. Following his father, he joined the military at a young age. As a
young solider, he met a poor beggar on the street shivering with cold winter. He immediately
took his sword, cut his clock into two and gave half of it to the beggar and went away half
naked. That night, he felt the presence of Jesus and his the voice, saying, it was not the
beggar that you clothed but it's me.

Global: I’m sure we all meet Jesus presence in our life though most of the times, unnoticed or
unconscious. Such incidents are very common for all of us in the formation. But underlying all
these it is Jesus who is present with us.

con ict are easy to resolve, some takes months, some years and some may not at all.

Exegesis: In todays reading Jesus presence is manifested in two ways. In the rst reading,
Jesus presence as the spirit of Wisdom. This spirit is Intelligent, Holy, Unique (IHU), Manifold,
subtle, agile (MSA), clear, unstained, certain (CUC), not baneful, loving the good, keen,
unhampered (NLKU), bene cent, kindly, rm, secure (BKFS), tranquil, all powerful, all seeing,
and pervading all other spirits.

In the Gospel, Jesus presence is manifested in the kingdom of God. We cannot just see this
kingdom with our eyes not hear it because it is not announced, here it is or there it is. However
it is among us already. In others words, Jesus is indeed present within us and waiting for us to
listen to Him.

Hermeneutics:as our constitution #23 says that we are to choose the person of Jesus Christ
and his presence as the center of our life and strive day by day to enter ever more intimately
into personal union with him. Do we recognise Jesus presence in our life?

As Fr Sonny highlighted for us last week from the words of our former superior general, Joseph
W. Tobin, if we become something other than that which we are called to be, we are “ruined”
as Redemptorists.

Link to Eucharist:

As we pray in the Eucharist through the intercession of St Martin of Tours in France who is a
great example for us, let us strive day after day to enter ever more intimately into personal
union with Jesus and never depart from His loving presence.
