ASSIGNMENT 1. Explain how governance can be used in the following context and give
appropriate examples.
a. National governance
 Governance used in the context of National Governance is the exercise of economic,
political and administrative authority to manage the affair, activities and transactions of a
country and where the citizens exercise their legal rights and obligations, being able to
manage the public affairs of the country, respect human rights and the participation of the
citizens. Example is to strengthen the rule of law by improving court efficiency and
increasing access to justice and by reducing corruption through the promotion of the
enforcement of anti-corruption laws.

b. Local governance
 In the context of Local Governance there is a right and capability of a community
executed directly in compliance with the established statutory procedures and through
representatives of local authorities. These local government authorities are elected, and
they are the ones who represent the interest of the community and make decisions on its
behalf. Local Government runs services such as Municipal courts, Parks and recreation,
and Emergency medical services.

c. Corporate governance
 Governance in the context of Corporate Governance is a concentrated ownership by a
limited number of family shareholders, within a bank-dominated financial market. There
are set of corporate law and capital market regulations enforced by the institutions.
Example in selecting board members for a company and what those board members do,
both personally and professionally, may be considered part of your corporate governance
policy.

d. International governance
 In the context of International Governance, the main points are the international
processes that are eroding the importance of the state, the relevant processes such as
internationalization of production and of financial transactions, the rise of new
international organizations, and the growth of international law. Example of this is
financial market regulation through the Bank for International Settlements and the
guidelines for multinational enterprises set by the Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development (OECD).
