Title of the project: Impact of GST on FMCG sector

Statement Of The Problem

This project focuses on the impacts of GST on the companies as well as on the final
consumers in the FMCG sector. Project report studies the variations in the profit, sale,
purchases, tax and share prices of the FMCG companies pre and post GST.

Justification Of The Topic Chosen

FMCG sector companies are those goods which are consumed not only by any one particular
class of people instead it is consumed by all the class of the people

Objectives Of The Study

Following are the objectives of the study:

 To understand the concept of GST.

 To obtain a comprehensive overview of consumer’s and retailer’s awareness and
perceptions of GST.
 To find out the impact of GST on sales of retailers.
 To analyze the impact of changes in the tax rates of fast moving consumer goods on
consumers.
 To study the impact of GST on the companies in the FMCG Industry in India.
 To analyze whether the impact if any is positive or negative
 To analyze the impact of Goods and Service Tax on the sales, purchases, net profit,
tax and stock prices of the selected companies pre and post GST.
Scope Of The Study

 India has implemented GST on 1.7.2017. GST is a real game changer and it will lead
to a complete over haul of current indirect tax system. GST, being new in India,
includes tremendous changes in the various sectors of the economy. It will affect all
the industries irrespective of a single sector. FMCG segment is the fourth largest in
the Indian economy. For most segments within the FMCG spare, GST brings good
tidings on the back of lower tax incidence when compared to the total tax paid pre –
GST.
 This research relies on secondary data. No primary data is involved in this research.
 The sample selected is based on the availability of data regarding the financial
statements of the companies available online.
