Here is the template I would like you to follow for each of the
locations and shoots you undertake for both of my units.
You may not need to fill in every section for every shoot, or even
have a log for every time you go to take pictures.

I plan to take a photo of a queue into a shop like this, but from a
different angle (behind if possible). I might join the queue myself so
that I can get the right photo.

Research (weather conditions, techniques etc)

I plan to shoot in dry weather conditions like in the photograph
above. The photographer has used a wide angle shot to show the
distance between people and leading lines on the building. I might
not use these techniques as I am shooting from a different angle.

Must have shots – what are the key images you want to take?
I want to try and get a shot of queuing up, also as part of a queue.

Techniques to try – slow shutter speed, using filters etc

I want to try and use leading lines because it emphasizes the length
of the queue. I want to use depth of field to blur out the furthest
away part of the queue. This might make it look like the queue is
very long (maybe longer than it is).

Equipment needed – have a checklist you can tick off each time you
go out – use the class notes from Moodle

Camera/mobile phone camera (if necessary)

SD card if using camera

SHOOT REVIEW LOG

YOUR NAME Ross Pilling

Date & time of visit – 22nd February 2021, midday

Location – it was a good location.

Weather conditions – it was a sunny day and because the sun was
high in the sky at midday this made the natural lighting conditions
very good.

Equipment used – I had to use my mobile phone as there was a lot

of people around and I did not want to make people uncomfortable.

Camera techniques used – I tried to get a good close up and worked

on getting interesting composition.

Things that worked – I was happy with the lighting, and with the
way that the photos turned out. I feel that they represent what it is
like to stand in queues because of the pandemic.

Any challenges? – As I was in the queue with people, and I was

trying to get shot to show what it is like queueing up, it was difficult
to do this with my camera without making other people
uncomfortable or suspicious about what I was doing. I overcame this
by using my mobile phone.

Ideas for future shoots – If I was to do this again, I would try to

move myself away from the line and take wide shots of the line to
show it from a different perspective. I might ask my mum to stand in
the queue and get a close up with her hand and the line in the
background.

Include a contact sheet of each shoot, narrowed down to around
10-20 images. Show your selection process with colour or star rating.

You are not doing final edits at this stage! The next step is to identify
your best shots to take to post-processing and the editing
techniques you wish to apply to these images.
