Song Analysis – Theme (Broken Hearted)

Stefanie Thamrin XIA4 / 29

Epiphany – Jin BTS
So weird
I for sure loved you so much
Adapted to you with everything
I wanted to live my life for you
He tried to adapt to the “you” lifestyles and live his life for the “you”. He did all those things because he loved
the “you” so much. But he found it weird, like the melody doesn’t fit its chord. Why? Because he lost himself.
He forgets who he is because he only focused on the “you”. What is or who is the “you”? Based on my analysis,
the “you” is his perfect soulmate. He loved his perfect soulmate so much that he forgets about his true and
precious self.

But as I keep doing that

I just can’t bear the storm inside my heart
The real myself inside the smiling mask
I reveal it entirely
As he kept doing all those things for his perfect soulmate, the more he feels lost and broken. He then gathers all
his brave and confidently decide to reveal his true self.

I’m the one I should love in this world

Shining me, precious soul of mine
I finally realized so I love me
Not so perfect but so beautiful
I’m the one I should love
*He finally realized, that his true self is the one who he should love, not his perfect soulmate. It has a flaw, but
the flaw is the one who makes him beautiful and unique for who he is. The flaw completes something that his
perfect self couldn’t complete, flawless.

Even if you get disturbed and feel afraid

Walk forward
Meet your true self that you hid inside the storm
This verse has a deep message, which was he made to told himself that, even when his perfect self looks like
against with his imperfect self, he should walk forward and balance them together for the better purpose. Don’t
hide for who you are. Don’t hide your true self behind the shadow. Don’t be afraid of the world’s view of
yourself. Step it onto the light and accept it.
Why did I want to hide my precious self
What made me so afraid that I hid my true self
For all these times, he hid his imperfect but precious self. Why did he afraid to show his true self? He laughs at
his foolish past self. These lyrics doesn’t mean that he is still lost. But on contrary, these lyrics questions him
about his past self. Afraid means nothing, his true self is really precious because his true self changes him to be
a better person.

I’m the I should love in this world

The shining me, the precious soul of mine
I finally realized, so I love me
Though I’m not perfect, I’m so beautiful
I’m the one I should love
*He finally realized, that his true self is the one who he should love, not his perfect soulmate. It has a flaw, but
the flaw is the one who makes him beautiful and unique for who he is. The flaw completes something that his
perfect self couldn’t complete, flawless.

I may be a bit blunt, I may lack some things

I may not have that shy glow around me
But I’m me just as I am
My arms, legs, heart, and soul
That I have lived with until now
His true self may be dull or lack on some things that his perfect self is supposed to manage. His perfect self is
expected to do all things perfectly. But his true self is way more worth it than doing all things perfectly. He is
who he is. His body, heart, mind, and soul are all his. No one is perfect and no one should expect others to be
perfect.

I want to love them in this world

Shining me, the precious soul of mine
I finally realized, so I love me
Not so perfect but so beautiful
I’m the one I should love
*He finally realized, that his true self is the one who he should love, not his perfect soulmate. It has a flaw, but
the flaw is the one who makes him beautiful and unique for who he is. The flaw completes something that his
perfect self couldn’t complete, flawless.

In conclusion, this song tells a story of one who breaks up or lost his / her one’s other perfection or perfect
soulmate. Then he / she unite with one’s true self. One’s true self heals the body, heart, mind, and soul from
being broken. The wound may heal, but it always leaves scars. Embrace the scars, don’t hid it on purpose. This
is you and only yourself.
