Silicone Rubber Moulding
Molding
Silicone elastomers are typically molded by three main methods: liquid injection molding
(LIM), transfer molding and compression molding. The injection molding process, an
excellent choice for high-volume applications, employs lower pressures and higher
temperatures than the other molding methods — 250 to 2,000 psi injection pressure and
temperatures of 245°F to 485°F.By contrast, transfer and compression molding operate
at pressures of 2,000 to 8,000 psi and temperatures of 200°F to 370°F. In designing for
the molding process, designers should take into account the material shrinkage rate,
which can range from 2% to 4%, depending on the mat.
Transfer and compression molding are widely accepted and are in use today. Unlike the
LIM process, transfer and compression molding require separate pre-mixing of the HCR
silicone rubber on a two-roll mill. The material is then cut into predetermined shot size and
fed into the tool via transfer or a stuffer box. These processes must be operated at lower
temperatures, requiring longer operating cycles. This is why it's not uncommon to see
large molds with 100 cavities or more on diaphragm, bottle closure, O-ring seal and many
other applications. When transfer molding, a hydraulic ram displaces HCR silicone
through the sprues and gates into the cavities. Compression molding differs. The HCR
silicone is manually placed into the cavities, and it is compressed in the mold to complete
the fill during the closing action of the press.

Silicone O-Rings, Seals & Gaskets
We offer silicone o-rings in all standard sizes, as well as silicone seals and gaskets in custom configurations that are tailored to your specific needs. We can provide custom
silicone o-rings, gaskets, and seals with the hardness, colors, and industry certifications for your application requires.
Fluorosilicone O-Rings
² Fluorosilicone o-rings (FVMQ) combine the good resistance to high and low-temperatures of silicone
with resistance to fuel and oils. The main uses of Fluorosilicone (FVMQ) O-rings are in fuel systems and
are ideal for prolonged immersion in fuels, oils, solvents and aggressive fluids.
² Fluorosilicone o-rings are recommended for elevated temperatures where the dry-heat resistances
of silicone O-rings are required.

Silicone Expansion Bellows & Boots
The silicone multiple bellow expansion joints with support rings have been designed especially to provide small, low weight expansion joints which combine flexibility and high
medium temperature with simple installation. The silicone ranges accommodate misalignment, axial and lateral pipework movements and reduce the transmission of noise,
vibration and shock. They are suitable for use with cooling water, fuel and lubrication oil pipework systems up to 220°C. The burst pressure safety factor is 3 times the working
pressure of 4 bar. The minimum work pressure (absolute) is 80 to 90 kPa, depending on compensator size and can be lowered by fitting vacuum support rings.

Silicone Extrusions
Centroid Polymer Technologies is specialist in silicone extrusions manufacturing, fabrication, and producing complex shape profiles frequently used by highly technical
Industries. In the extrusion process, silicone rubber is extruded to make such products as tubing, solid rods, profile gaskets, seals and preforms used in compression molding.
The silicone compound is continuously forced through a die that forms it to the desired cross-sectional size and shape. After the extrusion process, the silicone is vulcanized and
cured.

PTFE Wear Rings, Piston Seals, Guide Strips
For linear, reciprocating and slow rotating motions
The sliding movements of components, i.e. a piston in a tube, risk metal-to-metal contact that will damage and score the
surfaces and eventually cause seal damage, leakage and component damage. To prevent this, piston and gland should
have a brass bearing surface or precision guide elements such as wear rings, wear bands, guide rings or bearings. The
greater the side load forces, the stronger the wear ring material must be. Wear rings should last longer than the seals as they
are the only things stopping expensive damage to the cylinder.
The function of the wear ring is to help keep the piston centered, which allows for even wear and pressure distribution on the
seals. Wear rings should always be installed on the lubrication (wet) side of the seal for best performance. For rod glands,
the wear ring should be on the pressure side of the rod seal. For pistons, if only one bearing is to be used, it should be on the
side of the piston opposite the rod. This arrangement keeps the piston wear ring further away from the rod wear ring. This
becomes critical when the rod is at full extension and provides better leveraging of the two bearing surfaces.
Our non-metallic wear rings for rod and piston applications offer great benefits over traditional metal guides:
² High load bearing capabilities
² Cost effective
² Easy installation and replacement
² Wear-resistant and long service life
² Low friction
² Wiping/cleaning effect
² Embedding of foreign particles possible
² Damping of mechanical vibrations

Piston Seals
The function of the piston seal is to ensure that pressurized fluid or other media does not by-pass the piston as the system pressure pushes the piston down the cylinder during a
pressure cycle. American High Performance Seals manufactures a comprehensive range of piston seal designs, including lip seals, PTFE cap seals, compact-squeeze type
seals and application–specific designed seals made from high-performance elastomers and engineered plastic materials to offer maximum durability and sealing performance.
Piston Seal Design Considerations:
• Pressure Rating…
• Single- or Double-Acting Piston Seals…
• Lip vs. Squeeze Seals…
• Seal Lip Geometry…
• Non-symmetrical Piston Seal Design…
Our Piston Seals are classified as follows:
– High-Pressure Piston Seals – up to 5,000psi (350bar)*
– Ultra-High Pressure Piston Seals – up to 10,000psi (700bar)*
– Long-Life Piston Seals – up to 5,000psi (350bar)*
– Low-Friction Piston Seals – up to 5,000psi (350bar)*
Guide elements of PTFE compounds are characterized by their exceptional frictional behavior, stick-slip-free running and high thermal and chemical resistance.
The guide bands are generally provided with a diagonal cut; a straight 90° cut or a stepped Z cut is also possible.
Benefits
² Outstanding frictional behavior
² No stick-slip effect, even at low velocities
² High wear resistance
² Good damping of mechanical vibrations
² Embedding of foreign particles possible, good wiping effect
² Simple groove design
² Available in stock lengths or in cut sizes ready for installation

PTFE Etching Service
Centroid Polymer Technologies can chemically etch the surface of PTFE.
PTFE is an amazing non-stick material, but what about when you need to glue it to the suface of another material ? In order to bond standard PTFE to another surface such as
Rubber process called "etching" is required. Etching is a chemical process that removes the fluorine atoms from the surface layer of the fluoropolymer.
• Note: Etched surfaces will discolor to a brown appearance.
• May be Etched on One Side (EOS)(Standard) or Two Sides (E2S) Etched PTFE
