A Cruel Joke

I had never been in such a perplexity before in my 24 year life. An incident like this has never emerged

before and I had no clue about what should I do now. It was about 2: 30 am and I could not even close my

eyes for a moment. So many things were going throughout my mind. I was in a total mixed emotion. It was

a fact that would transfigure my life.

It was about two hours ago after the incident. The statement was still ringing crystal clear in my ears.

My childhood best friend Sahed suddenly called me around 12:15 am and after a hesitating fifteen minutes

he conveyed his feelings and said me “I love you Nila, Will you marry me?” I could not speculate what I

heard. I never ever encountered a simple proposal before and now a direct marriage proposal. And to make

it more engrossing it was my best friend! I just said that I will think about it and let you know and cut the

call. There should not be any conundrum for a girl to marry a boy like Sahed as he is intelligent and

handsome. But it is different for me as he is my childhood friend. Both our families know we are very good

friends and would certainly be surprised to hear this. A tones of questions and facts stormed inside my

mind. My parents would be really stunned to hear this but again on the other side it would be benevolent

for them to have an authentic boy like Sahed as their only daughter’s husband. The fact that Sahed might

not be a friend like he is now but he can be a better person as a husband. And of course I could not deny

the fact that I was eagerly searching for someone and could not hide my feelings that I was feeling the need

of love somewhere in my heart. After comparing both the positivities and the negativities I realized that the

best thing to say him is a big YES!

Then with a gleaming face and a lot of courage I picked up my mobile phone and texted him, “ Sahed

lets meet up tomorrow at The Intercontinental at around 5 as I have something important to talk about

with you.” The whole day and the whole night I could not stop blushing and was very excited as it was my
first date. And in fact not a date, it’s about my marriage proposal.

Time eventually passed by and eventually we all went there. As soon as I went there I was totally

mesmerized to see such gentle behavior of Sahed. The person who always used to be late was there half an

hour before and as soon as he saw me he stood up and came to be and bought the chair out so that I can sit

properly. He was dressed in such an awe inspiring was that after seeing him I could not resist myself from

staring at him.

We all were gossiping and talking about many things then suddenly he stood up and came close to me

and hold my hands and bought a piece of ring from his pocket and replied “ Hey Varisha, my peace, my

love, I love you to the full moon and back, please accept my proposal and I can assure you I will never let

you drop a single drop of tears from your eyes.”

After hearing that I replied Varisha. Who is she? Then with a blushing smile Sahed picked his phone out

and saw me her picture who he used to love very much. Then when I asked him why then he called me he

replied “ Hey bro, you are my best friend and you always said that you are always there when I need you, so

that’s my I rehearsed myself of how to confess my inner turmoil to my love”

After hearing this I completely broke into pieces. I was about to cry but resisted myself from doing so as I

never wanted to damage our strong friendship.
