Have two patches running for this piece, one for the video/tape and one for the live processing. “Patch for
Video.maxpat” triggers the video/tape file and “Whiteley_Final_CLEF.maxpat” controls the live processing.
This piece requires a tech assistant to trigger the live processing cues (as indicated in the score) and start and
stop the video/tape file.!

favourite!symbol!for!the!unconscious,!the!mother!of!all!that!lives.”!The!oceanKimage!as!associated!with!primal,!preKconscious!life!
is!also!found!in!Greek!myth,!which!expresses!that!life!emerged!from!the!sea,!the!mother!of!all!creation.!In!the!way!of!Shamanism,!
drumming!is!used!to!induce!a!range!of!trance!states!through!repetitive!rhythms,!serving!as!a!conduit!for!navigating!the!multiK
layers!of!the!psyche.!In!this!altered!trance!state!one!may!experience!“journeying”!to!other!realms,!filled!with!vivid!imagery,!
