“Colorful Rain”

Rain
Falls down
From the clouds
And settles in puddles
Or makes streaks on windows
But the sounds of the raindrops
While you are inside with hot cocoa
Makes you feel like all is right and you
Can curl up and have a book read to you
Watch a movie or play a board game
But you might miss the sun while
It is away, hiding behind
The clouds

“A Flying Red Ship”

“I am a pirate!”
Next time he will be an astronaut
The swashbuckling sailor will become an galactic explorer
What do these professions have in common?
Wonder
The curiosity of exploration
The young boy wants to discover the whole world
Everything is new to him
The flying red ship may not look like much
But its beauty lies in its ambiguity
And the captain of this ship
Will always be the one who first imagined it

“A ladybug”
You imagine a ladybug to be in summer, always
Beautiful things don’t always exist in beautiful places
A ladybug still exists in the winter
On the leaves that have since turned brown

Inside the common house on a common street,

a beautiful thing lives
A child whose mind is growing
A child who is running freely in the garden
and sees a ladybug on a brown leaf
and decides to draw a picture

“She is red with lots of spots!”

The excitement of a discovery is tangible in the frostygarden
The beautiful ladybug and the beautiful child
Are together for a moment, then the ladybug flies away
The memory lasts, however, and the drawing as well

In the summer, the ladybug returned

The wonder of the child had never left
She discovered butterflies, ants, caterpillars
She learned the alphabet, how to count to ten
Drew countless pictures of the world that was allnew to her
In the time that it took for the ladybug to return,
the child had never stopped growing
into a beautiful little girl

“Hot air balloons”

Patterns on globes of air

Casting shadows on the rolling hills
Transportation of whimsy and care
Provides a seemly sight from windowsills
Children look up and can't help but stare
In awe of the aviator’s skills

Above them is the reflection
Of sheep’s wool or dusty white flowers
They wonder about their direction
As they travel slowly for hours

“Home”

A place that is home can be surrounded by flowers

A place that is home can be the place you spend hours
A place that is home can be bathed in sunlight
A place that is home can be the place you sleep at night

A place that is home can be full of energy

A place that is home can be shaded by a tree
A place that is home can be ringing with laughter
A place that is home can be what you return to after

But a place that is home is always where your heart is

A place that is home is always where you belong

Age: 1
Favorite Movie: “Finding Dory”
Favorite Activity: Coloring, reading books
“A Little Hurricane”

A hurricane of energy
Rushing through the house
Giggles and squeals in the hallway
Loud unlike a mouse

She leaves behind a trail of markers

The colors of the rainbow
Where will she run to next?
The world may never know

She scribbles and plays and runs

Bouncing around screaming “Eep!”
She never ever gets tired
Until it is time to go to sleep
