Project Summary

Provide a brief summary of the activity and how it will be implemented

As a mechanism to promote livelihood opportunities under Marawi Response Project’s value chain
priorities to CSGs and other potential groups, MRP entered into partnership with the municipal
government of Baloi, Lanao del Norte for the establishment of a diversified and integrated
demonstration farms. These demo-farms, which is an initiative to Horticulture production, will be
provided for farmers to have practical and hands-on learning and management on organic farming and
supply production, as well as having sustainable income from their operations.

The project shall be a horticultural livelihood through the production of the following:

 Horticulture components include Corn and Rice

Once the project is successfully provided, the local government and CSGs will be in charge of the
development, monitoring, management, maintenance and safeguarding of facilities of farms. With the
operations of resources, specific committee will be assigned to undertake efficient operations,
production, and record keeping. Lastly, there will be formalization of agreement among rightsholder as
well as secure contract on land use.

With this, the demo farm is proposed as part of the value chain priority of the livelihood component of
MRP. This ensures a sustainable contribution not just to the farmers, but also to the whole community
and neighboring areas that aspire to boost local economy and development of horticulture industry. This
will provide more opportunities as this generates revenue from value addition, heightens capacities of
direct beneficiaries to have more produce, and increases employment to the locals.

This assistance is also relevant of the current COVID-19 outbreak as communities will be assured of food
security, sustainable resource generation as well as self-sufficiency in food production which is vital for
both personal and societal benefits.
