Parts of the Guitar and String Names

String names from highest sounding to lowest sounding that is the strings closest to the ground and up are :
E, B, G, D, A, E

Note that there are two E strings, I call the high E string “E” and the low E string “Low E”.

Practice Activities:
1. Practice Partner points to the part on the guitar, student points to it and repeats the name
2. Practice Partner says the name of the part and the student points to it
3. Practice Partner points to the part on the guitar and student says the name
4. Students points to and says all the parts on their own

Practice Activities for the Four Steps


1. Practice partner helps direct the students through all the steps
2. Practice partner calls out steps and repeats the step name, then directs the student through all the steps
3. Practice partner calls out the step names and the student does them
4. Student calls out the steps and does them on their own

Four Steps

Step 1 Step 2
Left foot next to the foot-rest “Rocket Position”
Sit on the front of the chair with the
body of the guitar resting on the righ
leg

Step 3 Step 4
Left foot gets placed on the foot-rest “Close the Door”
Bring the body of the guitar down so that is
rests on the left leg with the neck at roughly
a 45-degree angle with the ground, the
low E string tuner should line up with the
student’s nose

Ready Position

Proper ready position should appear similar to this photo.

• Feet are flat on the ground, with the heel directly under the knee
• Sit in a relaxed and upright posture, keeping your head up
• The neck of the guitar is roughly at a 45-degree angle with the ground
• The low E string tuner lines up with the student’s nose
• The left hand is holding the body
• The right hand lays across the top of the body
