When a curved line (^; connects two notes fhet are alike, it is called a Tie. Both notes are played
in the same bow etroke and counted aa one note.

BUILDING A MAJOR SCALE


E we play eight notes going up a step at a time so ttrat the eighth note is an octave above the 1st
note, we have a scale.

If there is ahalf step between the 3rd and 4th notes and a half siep between the 7th and 8th notes ,
we have a Major scale. Letts divide the scale into two halves. Each haLf is call.ed a Tetrachord.

HARMONY and STYLES '

Arranged and produced by Michael KaE, mo$ of the exercises


have fully harmonized accompaniments feafuring a variety of
musical styles. The melody is recorded on the left stereo chan-
nel. With the balance control on the playback eguipment, the
melody can be tuned out by turning the balance allthe way to
