As you will be staying there to live and work
you don’t need a return ticket.
But you don’t have much money, so it needs to
be an economy ticket.
You study at a university and are traveling to
Pakse, in Laos for some research for 1 week.
Being a student you don’t have much money so
you travel economy class.
You want to be there on Tuesday at the latest.
Your oldest daughter is getting married in
Singapore on Saturday, and you also want to
see her the day before the wedding.
You and your wife/husband and youngest
daughter want economy class return tickets to
there as the wedding is already costing a lot of
money.
You are studying in Bangkok and are going
home to visit your parents in Brunei for the
midterm holiday.
As a student you don’t have much money, so
you travel economy class and just want the
cheapest ticket. The day is not important.
You are going to a business meeting in Angeles
in the Philippines. Your meeting is on Monday
morning and you have to be back on
Wednesday.
Your company pays a business class ticket for
you.
You are a famous movie star and going on a
holiday with your wife and two children to
Mandalay in Myanmar, for a two week holiday.
You are rich and want first class tickets for
you and your family.
As your children go to school, you want to fly
Friday evening or Saturday.
You are going to Penang in Malaysia together
with your colleague for a business meeting.
Your company will pay for business class
tickets.
You are going for about 4 days and need to be
there on Wednesday afternoon the latest.
You are going to Siem Reap, in Cambodia to
visit nearby Angkor Wat for a few days.
As it is only a short flight you just want a
cheap ticket and it doesn’t matter when you
fly.
Instructions:

This is a small simple conversation about buying an airline ticket for travel within ASEAN.

1 student plays someone who wants to buy an airline ticket and another student plays the role of an
airline ticket agent.
The customer use the assigned role card to book is/her desired ticket(s), while the ticket agent gives
the correct information based on the airline sheet.
The other students listen to the conversation and fill in the information they hear on the chart.

For most situations, the students can just follow the sample conversation. But some improvisation of the
students is required. Note that while the customer buying tickets to Myanmar wants first class tickets,
there are only economy class tickets available on that route.
Both customer and ticket agent will have to improvise here.

The example is based on a flight with Thai airways to Bangkok.

Flight times are real or close to real as some routes don’t exist, as are the prices which are all given in
Thai baht. The logos are real airline logos. All airlines are the national carrier of their country.
The students will fly with the national carrier of their destination.

Below are links to the airline sites, so students can look up real flights and real prices. Some sites will
offer the currency info in local currency, so they can get a better idea of the price. They can also check
the flight times between capitals of ASEAN cities.
