Medical Surgical Nursing -II

OBJECTIVES: hours:

The purpose of this course is to acquire knowledge and develop proficiency in caring for patients
with medical and surgical disorders in varieties of health care settings and at home.

To ensure the students understand the alteration in anatomical structure and function in disease
and practice of Nursing.

OUTCOMES:

On completion of the unit the students will be able to:

1. Describe the etiology, patho- physiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic measures


and management of patients with disorders of Ear Nose and Throat.
2. Describe the Etiology, Patho physiology, clinical manifestations diagnostic measures and
management of patients with disorders of eye.
3. Describe the etiology, patho physiology, clinical manifestations diagnostic measures and
nursing management of patients with neurological disorders.
4. Describe the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestationsdiagnostic measures and
nursing management of patients with disorders of female reproductive system.
5. Describe concepts of reproductive health and family welfare programme .
6. Describe the etiology, patho physiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic measures and
nursing management of patients with oncology .
7. Describe organization of emergency and disaster care services Describe the role of nurse
in disaster management .Describe the role of nurse in management of common
Emergencies.
8. Provide care to patients with neurological disorders. Counsel and educate patient and
families
9. Provide care to patients with Burns .Counsel and educate patient and families .
10. Provide care to patients with cancer Counsel and educate patient and families .

To ensure the students understand the alteration in anatomical structure and function in disease
and practice of Nursing.

To ensure that students understand the basic pathological processes in body.identify and utilize
the underlying principles from social ,behavior,biological and physical science in assessing
,planning and implementing prevention curative and rehabilitative care.

OUTCOMES:

On completion of the unit the students will be able to:

1 Appreciate the trends in medical surgical nursing.Describe the role of nurse in caring for
adult patient in hospital and community.drscribe the concepts of medical surgical asepsis.
2 Describe the common signs symptoms problems and their specific nursing intervention.
3 Describe the etiology, patho physiology, clinical manifestations diagnostic measures and
nursing management of patients (adults including elderly) with respiratory disorders.
4 Describe the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestationsdiagnostic measures and
nursing management of patients(adults including elderly) with disorders of digestive
system. Counsel and educate patient and families
5 Describe the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestationsdiagnostic measures and
nursing management of patients (adults including elderly) with blood and cardiovascular
problems. Describe the vascular conditions and its nursing management.
6 Describe the etiology, patho physiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic measures and
nursing management of patients (adults including elderly) with genitor-urinary system

7 Describe the etiology, patho physiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic measures and

8 Provide care to patients with endocrine disorders. Counsel and educate patient and

nursing management of patients (adults including elderly) with skin disorders
10 Describe the etiology, patho physiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic measures and
nursing management of patients (adults including elderly) with musculo-skeletal system
disorders
11 Describe the etiology, patho physiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic measures and
nursing management of patients (adults including elderly) with communicable diseases.

12 Describe the organization and physical setup of operation theatre.identify the various
instruments and equipments used for common surgical procedures.
13 Describe the infection control measures in operation theatre .Describe the role of nurse in
pre operative nursing care.
