DHRUV GLOBAL SCHOOL

NURSERY FOUNDATION ASSIGNMENT

DATE:21st April 2020

TRANSFER ACTIVITY
Learning Outcome:
• Transfer Activities help strengthen a child's grip, improvises their hand-eye coordination and of
course they are exciting and children have fun too. Having fun always makes learning things much
easier. Scoop and transfer activities are those activities where a child scoops an item
and transfers it elsewhere

• We've listed an interesting activity that is great to keep them busy and will build their hand
muscles in the process. This will in the long run help in developing their pincer grip and
writing skills.
Scoop and Transfer Beans
Material Required-
• Ice Cube Tray
• Small bowls
• Scoops/ Spoons
• Beans- Variety of beans like
Kidney Beans (Rajma), Chickpeas
(Choole), or grains like Rice,
Pigeon Peas (Toor Daal) etc.
whatever is easily available at
home can be used.

Activity Set up:

• Place three set of bowls with different beans/ grains in it along with small spoons.
• Set it along with an ice cube tray in a wooden /plastic tray in order to avoid spilling.

For Nursery students: This activity to be done with the help of bigger materials like the scoop that comes in
the washing powder boxes or kitchen ladles with shorter handles or even mugs. The little ones will find it
difficult to hold and manoeuvre tiny objects initially.
# The point of the activity is to build muscles that will enhance fine motor skills. The children to be given
increasingly finer tasks once they perform the previous one creditably. This help them hone their fine motor
skills.
# Nursery students can even first work on their fine motor skills by segregating larger objects and then
move onto the scoop and transfer activity. Larger objects like fruits, blocks, potato, lemon, ginger, etc can
be used for this segregation activity.
For the scoop and transfer activity, in place of ICE tray bowls and pans can be used for younger children.

Instructions to be given by parents:

• Demonstrate to hold the spoon with three dominant fingers. Initially Playgroup & nursery children
can first try by holding the spoon with their fist. Eventually with practice they will be able to proceed
towards holding it with their three dominant fingers.
• Demonstrate it once to them by scooping one spoon at a time in the ice cube tray. This
demonstration should be done very slowly in order for children to understand.
• Scoping and transferring of the grains should be done with minimum sound and distraction. It is not
a game even if it seems like it so let your child concentrate.
• There should be minimum spillage of beans/grains.
What are students expected to do:
• Students should be able to hold the spoon with three dominant fingers
• They should be able to scoop and transfer the grains to the ice cube tray in separate cubes

Learning Outcome:

• This activity will help strengthening their finger muscles and improve their pincer grip. The pincer
grip helps in good handwriting later.
• Development of mathematical skills, i.e. the ability to judge the quantity of beans in each cube.
• It also helps in increasing their attention span.
• It will prepare children for daily chores at home. For example, as they are learning to scoop, they
are also learning how to serve their own food.
