Week 1 Idea generation

What have I done this week? This week I produced what type of production I
will be doing for my FMP. I decided to go with a
short film as this would be the most flexible if
anything does go wrong. I also completed a chart
considering any problems I might face during this
unit. This included things like availability, Covid-
19 restrictions, and props. I decided to keep the
caste to the minimum for all productions so I can
spend more time on the quality and not
rescheduling.
What went well Produced lots of adaptations of ideas with good
details to some of them. I also managed to find
an informative website that allowed me to look
at all kinds of competitions and being able to
filter it down to what I wanted to do.
What problems did I have? At the start of the week, I did not have any ideas
other than one that was very minimal in detail. I
also had a brief problem with my survey link not
working which I quickly fixed.
How did I fix it? I fixed this by asking some friends to throw a lot
of random ideas at me and I chose and adapted
them to fit. I filter the adaptation by what I liked
the best and sent out a survey to see what the
general public like and want to see. With the
survey link I recreate it so that it was a new link
and double checked it worked before sending it
out again.
What I learnt I found out that a majority of the people who
completed the survey where under 18. A lot of
people like the first and third idea. Some people
said on the first idea that they did not know how
the ending was going to work while others said
make him have a realization of how important all
the noise was or what kind of noise it was such as
family, work, or other things. For the third idea
someone suggested that they show some
memories before the accident happened to add
to the impact of him forgetting them.
I still need to complete a rough production
What still needs to be completed schedule on what I will be doing each week. I also
need to complete why it should be made along
with the social context. I also need to add a more
in-depth detail on the idea I am likely to be
choosing.
What I need to do for next week For next week I am still on context. The first thing
I need to complete next week would be the
production schedule as that is the biggest things
to complete. The next thing I need to do is add
detail the idea that I plan to choose. Once I have
done that, I need to complete why it should be
made and how it is going to help me develop. For
the final thing I need to complete is the social
context. For that I need to talk about what the
message of my production is and what the social
implications will be. I also need to talk about who
it is aimed at.

Week 2 Research
What have I done this week? This week I have decided to investigate the
themes of my short film. My main theme was
solitude, this opened my research to investigate
all kind of things such as what would cause it,
self-doubt, self-reflections, and mental
breakdowns. This allowed me to have a better
understanding of human mindset and thought
process. I also did my primary target audience
research by doing a focus group and sending out
several surveys. I transformed the survey
responses into an infographic to show my
understanding.
What went well The focus group is the main thing that went well
as I made sure to ask a range of questions and
listen to what everyone had to say, I also allowed
them to ask me anything that was not clear or
how it would be implemented into my
productions. They all produced ideas that I may
have not considered but opening the idea of
going down that route when planning.
What problems did I have? I had a slight problem with the survey again not
working for the more detailed version of my idea.
I also had trouble trying to get more responses as
I feel like it was exceedingly long.
How did I fix it? With my problem with the survey, I had to
recreate the link as well as change some of the
questions to make it much simpler so I can get
more response. I also posted it on several social
platforms such as twitter, Instagram, discord and
snapchat.
What I learnt From my research I found out what kind of things
would make people self-doubt and self-reflect. I
also found out what kind of questions people.
would ask themselves to help them find that
state of ‘solitude.’ My research also told the kind
of symptoms they may suffer with, this would
allow me to be able to create a more relatable
character without trivializing it. From my primary
research I found out that some people think that
an older character may work better as it would
show the stress of repetition along with
symbolizing the importance of appreciation.
What still needs to be completed I am ahead of my production schedule. I will
continue to keep adding any new information I
find.
What I need to do for next week Next week I plan to research the code and
conventions of genre. I will be analyzing 4 short
films within my genre along with looking at the
element that make it that genre. If I finish ahead
of schedule I will start on the codes and
conventions on techniques by looking at ‘how to’
videos and putting them into practice

Week 3 research
What have I done this week? I have analyzed 4 short films that are in my genre,
I looked at all the key things such in a production
such as lighting, camera angles and sounds. I also
talked about how I was going to use it in my
production. I also researched more into genre
styles which was quite hard as my idea was a sub-
genre of neo noir making it hard to find a
common style within it. I investigated the codes
and conventions as well to see what I might use
in my production. Next, I investigated narrative
structure and looked at Tordorov narrative
structure theory and talked about what sections
in my short film will be the equivalent of each
part. I Also investigated some ‘how to’ to get a
better understanding on how to do a certain
effect and more. Since I was ahead of schedule I
decided to investigate character development
and watched 4 short clips of a neo noir film. After
I did that, I created my own character profile and
then investigated common locations within my
genre then talked about how I could use them in
my production.
What went well The codes and conventions went well as it gave
me more things to consider, I also think the 4
short films I analyzed did well as It gave me some
more things to consider when it comes to
planning my production. I also feel like the
analyzing common locations within my genre
went well as I considered how I could use them
with in my production as well as why I will not be
using some.
What problems did I have? I did end up having some problems with finding
things about character development as my
productions is a sub-genre of neo noir, it has
some features of a neo noir, but I also some in
drama. I looked in more detail about each genre
so I could add more elements that I could use. I
also had some problems with trying to find short
films to analyze as there was not as many neo
noir films compared to just noir films. I also had
some issues when producing my character profile
as I wanted it to feel more relatable and genuine.
How did I fix it? I decided to just watch clips to a movie that fit
into my genre and just analyses the character in
that section. For my issue with my character
profile, I decided to ask some friends to list some
common personality traits and I took the ones I
liked.
What I learnt I found out the common characteristics of a neo
noir films and how they used lighting to emphasis
on good and bad. I also learnt how many forms
drama can take the form of. I also looked at what
kind of narrative structure my short film will be
which I concluded that it would be a viewpoint is
the story is just being told from one character
perspective. For my ‘how to’ I found out the
basics of colour grading as well has the best way
to films at night without making the image look
noisy.
What still needs to be completed I still need to do a practice run of the things I
learn such as colour grading and filming in low
light. I also still need to analyze 4 more clips to
learn mise-en-scene and sound design. I also still
need to watch some of the ‘how to’ video
What I need to do for next week I need to finish off watching ‘how to’ and do a
practical of it. I also need to finish of the 4 clips
and look at mise-en-scene and sound used within
the production. For next week I am going to start
on a rough script and start looking for people
who would be interested in helping in the
production.
Week 4
What have I done this week? This week I added more detail to my character
development as I was told it is too basic and
there is more thing you can analyze. I also did
some practical work with colour grading, I shot a
short 15 second video and put a side-by-side
comparison so you can see what I have changed. I
also filmed a short video in the dark so play
around with the setting on my camera to match
best. I did some location scouting on google maps
and asked people at work good locations to film, I
have made a list of locations that I plan to visit
and doing recces on. I have done some more
video analyzing but this time on mise-en-scene
and sound. I focused on props, outfits, music, and
sounds thought I only had time to complete 1
video at the moment due to external reasons. Ive
also looked at my feedback and analyzed my
survey, completed my social context, and fixed
my brief to try and make it look more
professional. I have also added a bibliography
that I missed on the first week as I did not know
where to put it on my website. I’ve a synthesis to
some of my analyzing so I can get a higher grade
though I am not sure if it is enough, I talked
about how I could potentially use it in my
production.
What went well I feel like the colour grading practical is really
going to help me as I now know how to highlight
certain colour. I also feel like the one video I
analyzed had a lot of detail, I talked a lot about
how colours where being used along with their
meanings. I already have some idea of location
that I will want to use that will not require
permissions or transport difficulties.
What problems did I have? I did have some issue with keeping on this week’s
schedule due to external reasons and having to
be somewhere else on several days on top of
work making it hard to stay motivated.
How did I fix it? I did not really have any directly recognizable
problems from the work that I did, but for the
work I did not complete I have adapted my
schedule so that I can keep on top of everything, I
have allocated how long I am going to spend each
day and looked at what things I need to prioritize.
What I learnt This week I learn how to colour grade, I now
know how to select a certain colour and change it
to a different shade, or another colour. I also
learnt how to film in low lighting and what things
will help. I also learn from analyzing how much
subtle colours can imply certain meanings.
What still needs to be completed I still need to complete my analyzing of mise-en-
scene and sounds. I also need to physically visit
the location I plan on filming at to be able to
evaluate it properly. I may need to do the low
light practical again as I did not go thought the
ISO to see which ones worked best.
What I need to do for next week I need to complete my analyzing from this week,
then I plan to go to the locations and doing
location recess on them to make sure that they
are suitable. I will also look at common opening
and ending so I can fine tune the ending of my
short film. If I have time I am going to start on a
rough script and prepare for the 6 th week.

Week 5
What have I done this week? From last week I managed to complete the
analyzing of other productions, I investigated the
props, outfits and sounds to see how they were
used. This week I have not done as much as the
previous weeks, but I have been doing some
preparation for next week. I did some night
shoots for testing purposes to allow me to see
what my camera is capable of in low light and
allowing me to see what things I might need to
be able to make the production process easier.
Another thing I have been doing is looking at
more location to visit so I can do a location recess
on them and see if they suit my production. This
week I was planning to go to the locations but
due to other things popping up, this may have
been better as it has given me more time to look
around then I can do all the locations in one day.
This allows me to have a more diversity in
different scenes.
What went well I feel like while I was analyzing other production, I
started to notice small detailed and expanded on
them, I started to notice the use of colours on
each character and what they could potentially
symbolize. I also feel like the practical of the night
shoots helped grasp how well my camera can
perform in low lighting.
What problems did I have? With the night shoots I found out that there was
not a perfect setting for low light, it was either to
dark or create too much noise. I also had some
trouble with transport and timing to be able to
visit my planned locations so I changed when I
am going to visit it and investigated more
locations that I could use.
How did I fix it? I am going to see when I go back to college if
anyone has allowed light lens that I can use and
rent out a portable light. For my location issue I
changed next week’s plan for locations, I wrote
up a list of locations basing them of closes to
furthest so that I can go to all of them in one day
when I am not busy.
What I learnt I learnt what my camera is capable in low light
along with how I could potentially fix it by using a
different lens or bringing an external light to use.
I also learn how I could reduce noise by changing
the lens and running a low ISO setting.
What still needs to be completed I found out that I need to do secondary research
on my target audience, I did not end up doing the
opening and closing of my genre, but I plan to do
that on the weekend. Next week was going to be
rough script and storyboards but I am pushing
that back another week.
What I need to do for next week Complete opening and closings of my genre. Visit
locations that I plan to use. I will also investigate
secondary target audience research I missed that
out when I was doing target audience, I only
completed the primary research. I may start on
the script I if have time over the weekend of next
week so I can do storyboards in the middle of the
8TH week
Week 6
What have I done this week? This week I decided to do a conclusion on what I
have decided to go through with, so I have a
much clearer plan on what I am going to be using
when planning. I added a little bit more research
to themes so I can have a wider range. I also
investigated secondary research which told me
more statistics about my target audience along
with how they consume media and the effect of
them being in a digital generation. I went to some
of the locations that I planned to use and
recorded a short video to show the ambient
sounds along with anything else that would affect
the location and filming. Another thing I did this
week was write some notes on the videos on how
do certain things. I also started to add to my
problems and solutions page as I did not have
anything on it before.
What went well I think by writing up a conclusion it helped me
clarify what ideas I will want to use and other
ones that I will not since how my idea has
adapted from the start. I also investigated my
target audience it revealed a deeper
understanding with how media effects them and
their habits.
What problems did I have? This week I ended up falling behind a bit due to
not being able to still visit certain locations, I also
did not end up completing opening and closings
of my genre, but I did find the videos that I plan
to analyze.
How did I fix it? I am going to visit the locations when I can as I do
not have specific dates I can visit. With my
openings and closings, I looked at famous neo
noir films and decide to get the beginning and
ending of each. This saves me time when I come
to doing it as I won't have to spend more time
looking for something to analyses and just have
the video ready for me.
What I learnt I learnt that Gen Z is a lot more depressed due to
the implementation of technology. I also found
out that Gen Z care a lot more about other
people's perspectives on common problems and
their future. I also found out habits among
millennials and their daily routine along with the
common platform they use compared to Gen Z.
What still needs to be completed I still need to complete my opening and closings
of my genre so that I can have a better
understanding how I could start and end my
production. I also need to finish analyzing
another thing for my research themes.
What I need to do for next week I need to finish off my opening and closing
followed with my theme research. Once I’ve done
that I can finally start with pitching and planning
my production. I will also add to my conclusion so
that I have a clear understanding of which
elements I’m going to implement. While planning
I’m going to do my location recces and look into
what music I want to use, I already added some
to my research page.

Week 7
What have I done this week? This week I completed my opening and closings
of my genre from last week. I have also started
on my planning; I created a plot lines so I know
how I should write my script. I have also created
my cast and crew list as well as my props list, so I
know what I need to get for each scene.
What went well This week I feel like by writing plot points it helps
me concrete my idea, this has helped me think
more about what props I will need to tell the
story and create more of an impact it also
allowed me to think about what kind of meaning
they have behind them allowing me to give more
context to the characters.
What problems did I have? While talking to my teacher he pointed out that
there isn’t a lot of urban area which got me
thinking more into how I would implement it, but
I struggled to think of how I could use it in my
short film. I also had some concern that the
locations I have at the moment won’t be enough
for the duration I need
How did I fix it? I ended up looking for some more location
around reading and high Wycombe, but I decide
that I might make my character walk through
some alley or urban area before he gets to his car
to show what he starts off in compared to how it
ends.
What I learnt I learnt what kind of props I could use to tell the
story after speaking to my teacher. Before, I
wasn’t planning on really using a wallet or ultra-
scan as I didn’t have a clear transition between
shots or an impactful ending but after talking to
my teacher, he suggested maybe an ultra-scan to
show a new beginning which I really liked and I
spoke to some friend and they also liked that
idea, they said that it make it a happy ending
compared to the start.
What still needs to be completed I still need to do location recce, but I have the
locations ready, I also need to finish off my script
as I’ve done only half.
What I need to do for next week Next week I need to focus on my pitch. Once I’ve
finished my script, I can start on my story boards
and focus on framing each scene. After that I
need to get the auditions done for the cast even
though I already have people that already agreed
they would help, and they match my character
perfectly. Another thing that I need to do is
create a shooting schedule once I have
everything else done.

Week 8
What have I done this week? This week I have completed my scripts I’ve
changed the ending again so instead of an
ultrasound to more of pregnancy test as that
makes more sense. This week I also created and
presented my pitch talking about all the key
points and following the marking scheme to try
and make sure I cover everything.
What went well This week I feel like my pitch did somewhat well,
though I did feel like I was more reading of notes
than trying to sell my idea and sound persuasive.
I asked some peers and other people to read my
script and a lot of them said that it was a very
impactful which is what I wanted to achieve.
What problems did I have? This week I did have some issue with getting my
storyboards, I planned on printing them out at
home, but it turned out I ran out of paper, I tried
to print some out in college, but I didn’t have
enough credits to pay for each page.
How did I fix it? I ended up going out to buy some paper as this
would be the cheapest option to print and I don’t
have to pay per page.
What I learnt I learnt that I need to find a better way to
remember my notes when pitching and try and
make it more engaging for the audience.
What still needs to be completed I need to complete my auditions even thought I
have my caste. I also need to send out
confirmation emails and final confirmations to
film in a certain location. This week I’m going to
complete my storyboards then I can finally start
filming which will be the week after next.
What I need to do for next week Finish off auditions, get final confirmations on
cast and locations. complete storyboards and do
final testing with a small light I bought for my
production.

Week 9
What have I done this week? This week I have looked more into filming a car
scene. I learn what the best way is to film one
with my budget and restrictions. From my
research I decide to invest in in a tri suction
mount that I can stick onto the front of the car
and inside. I have also decided to invest into a
polarized filter to cut down reflections. I also did
some test shoots to see how they looked thought
they aren’t the most accurate since I did it during
the day so other problems may arise while
properly filming it in the dark. I managed to get
confirmation of the cast members and on one of
the locations I needed. I updated the cast list
since I didn’t have photos of my members and I
also updated my equipment and props list.
What went well I feel like my research into filming a car scene
gave me a better understanding on what goes
behind one and how to set it up. It gave me other
things that I could invest into to make it a higher
production. I also feel like the test shoots with
the equipment I purchased went well as it gave
me the exact angles I wanted with the lens I had.
What problems did I have? With the test shoots even thought it went well I
had some issue with trying to set it up and getting
everything in the frame since I was using a 50mm
lens with no adjustability. I did end up
overlooking something with permissions, I forgot
to ask for permission with one of the scenes
which ended up not being suitable due to other
family members in the same area, this changed
quite a lot since I was planning on filming it this
weekend and I didn’t have a lot of time to figure
out a solution. I also made another mistake when
buying something, I bought a lens filter for my
lens but forgot I was borrowing someone else
meaning the filter didn’t fit
How did I fix it? For the framing issue I decided to borrow a
friends go pro to see how it would look since it’s
much smaller and I can move it around a lot more
though I haven’t had a chance to test shoot it in
low light. For the permissions I ended up having
to message a few people to try and see if anyone
was able to help me out, I ended up being
allowed to film at my friend’s house who lives
more in a urban area which actually ended up
making it more authentic since I was going to
implement starting off in a urban area to a much
more rural area. With the filter I might not need
it but I wont be filming the car scene for this
week so I can do test shoots while I’m there to
see if it effects it as much in night time compared
to day time.
What I learnt This week I learn how to set up microphones in a
car for the best audio and the 3 to 1 rule. I also
learnt the importance of filters and how to use
them. This ended up making me purchase a filter
to help with the reflections that I may or may not
encounter during filming.
What still needs to be completed This week I need to finish of my storyboard as I
have done half of it, I also need to get the
auditions asap and complete. I also need to
complete my cost sheet and write up a
contingency plan if anything else does go wrong. I
also need to add more location recess since
things changed
What I need to do for next week Finish off storyboards, Get auditions in, create a
cost sheet and create a contingency plan if
anything does go wrong. I also plan on filming
this weekend since that is when my actors are
free, I need to do more location recess as well.

Week 10
What have I done this week? This week I started with my filming, I started on
the third and fourth scene of my short film which
is when the character goes to leave the house
and being in the car looking at his phone. I’ve
started to put the footage onto a timeline and
started marking points of where certain scenes
will be and what I need to reshoot with the old
footage.
What went well While looking back at the footage I really liked
the framing of certain shoots due to the lens and
equipment I had. I also feel like the lighting setup
I had really added to the small details.
What problems did I have? I had problems with dates of a location to film, I
also had some issue with some footage when
filming the phone, there was a flicker that
appeared when filming so I need to reshoot that.
How did I fix it? With the location issues I decided to film the next
few scenes that I could around that area and for
the flickers I need to change my shutter speed to
it matches with the display.
What I learnt I learn what kinds of distance I will need to use
the lens and how important the small light I
purchased is to help with the scene.
What still needs to be completed I’m still waiting on the auditions; I need to upload
my cost sheet and location recess from where I
have filmed at the moment.
What I need to do for next week Next week I plan on filming either at the office or
at my actors’ home while everyone else is out so
minimize risk with covid-19. I still need to
complete my storyboards and auditions

Week 11
What have I done this week? This week I filmed at the office scene and editing
more footage trying to pace footage according to
plan, I’ve also completed my storyboards but still
waiting on audition from cast members. I did
some more editing spacing out the sections that
are still yet to be filmed
What went well I feel like the Office location matched perfectly
with what I was for and since no one else was
there if allowed me to move freely without
having to worry about getting in other employee
way.
What problems did I have? I did have some shots I missed when I looked
over the footage, mainly the opening scene and
the end of that scene. What I wanted to do as
have a eye shot dilating which I got but I didn’t
match the other shots. After doing some thinking
what I could had done I thought that I could have
filming the main character being zoned out and
the phone bringing him back. I did overlook one
prop that I assumed would be accessible while
there. This was a clock, I assumed that since it
was an office, they would have some kind of clock
that I could use just to use to show that time is
passing, and work is filling up but they didn’t
have any clocks that I could use.
How did I fix it? I ended cutting out the eye shot as there was to
much of a mismatch, I also had to deal with not
having a clock in the shot since there was nothing
that I could do about it but did some subtle
changes with each shot such as a change in tie
and messier hair thought I feel like it would be
easily overlooked and not show enough that its
repetitive or a different day
What I learnt I leant that I need to make sure that I have
everything I need for the scene even if it may
seem like a basic thing to have for that
environment.
What still needs to be completed I still need the auditions for my cast as I forgot to
do it with them while I was filming.
What I need to do for next week Next week I need to make sure that I get the
auditions done for my cast members, I also plan
on filming the bedroom scene which shouldn’t
take too long.

Week 12
What have I done this week? This week I filmed the bedroom scene. Since the
covid restricts have been relaxed a bit I was able
to film in the cast members house since it was an
off section from the rest of the house.
What went well Since restrictions relaxed a bit, it allowed me to
film at my cast members house like I initially
planned. I also feel like some of the shots I had
made a strong impact to the scene since there
were some long shots which helped create pace
and let the audience be able to absorb the
atmosphere. With the little light I bought allowed
me to recreate the idea of a streetlight shining
through the window and creating a silhouette on
my main character which I really liked.
What problems did I have? I did have some issues with focusing the lens
when trying to do an overhead. Everything else
seemed fine. Another thing I had a problem is
with time management of when and what I will
be filming, I have 3 weeks left to make sure
everything is done, and I need to allow myself
any reshoots needed.
How did I fix it? I plan on reshooting that part of the scene and
filming extra parts along the week and weekend
whenever my cast can to give me time to do any
reshoots that I need if anything goes wrong or is
missed the first time.
What I learnt I’ve realized how tight of a schedule I’m actually
on so I’ve asked my cast members if I can film
some more during the evenings when they are
free just to allow me to be more flexible with
shots and reshoots. I also need to look back on
my footage to make sure it is in focus to avoid
any waste of time reshooting unnecessary things.
What still needs to be completed I need to write up a cost sheet and create my
production schedule to post onto my website.
What I need to do for next week Next week I plan to do some filming in the early
morning just before sunrise and some filming
after then I have all the other scene completed
except one, which is the main one and will take
the longest. I plan on filming this one scene
throughout several days so I have plenty of
footage to play around with when editing it.

Week 13
What have I done this week? this week I have filmed the sunrise scene. I did
run in to a few issues due to me forgetting to
bring certain equipment. I only have one more
scene to film but that scene will take the Longest
due to the Importance of it. There was another
scene that I planned on filming this week but
more plans ended up colliding meaning I have to
push it to next week.
What went well I feel like the location used really did match well
with what I wanted especially a sunrise over a
sleeping village. It creates that change in pace
from being in a hectic urban area to a much more
calmer environment. I also feel like certain close-
ups added a strong element.
What problems did I have? since it was early in the morning it meant we had
to wake up before sunrise which was around
5: 45 am. This meant I would have to be prepared
the night before but due to other factors I did not
have enough time to make sure I had everything,
I ended up forgetting to bring a polarizer filter
which was very Important for reflections on the
windows of the car. This ended up forcing me to
miss some shots since there was to much
reflection. with the problem of not being able to
film the other scene I unfortunately have to push
it back another week putting me further behind
schedule reducing the time I have for more
reshoots and editing.
How did I fix it? I tried to work around the reflections by lowering
the window by the drivers side but it is stuck so it
can not go down. To cover up the lose of footage
I filmed more of the town that I plan. Due to the
time and availably of everyone I've had to ask my
cast to let me know as soon as they are free even
if it is only for an hour. It’s not Ideal but it will
have to work if I want to finish on time
What I learnt I learnt how Important it is to be proactive and
prepared before he shot. I also learnt how
important polarized filters are for day scenes
especially when It's sunny.
What still needs to be completed I still have two scene that need to be filmed. I
also need to create a production schedule for my
cast members. I already have a production
schedule but it is not detailed enough. I also need
to upload location recess.
What I need to do for next week Next week I need to film the last two scene so I
can Start to fully focus on editing. I also need to
create a much more detailed production
Schedule

Week 14
What have I done this week? This week I finished off the filming that I needed
and I did my first edit and my second edit. For the
first edit it was before I had all the footage so
there was load of gaps in the timeline where I
planned to place the footage. For my second edit
I started to focus on adjusting the clips and
sorting out some parts of sound design do get the
baseline of what I want to have and what I don’t
really need. I also looked more into music that I
could used, I listened to many song while
watching my short film to see what kind of
impact without changing anything so its not just a
spontaneous change which effects the flow of the
rest of the edit.
What went well I feel like the final filming and editing went really
well especially in the second edit where I started
to cut down on unnecessary clips and take out
certain parts of the scene that felt like it was
taking too long and lost my attention meaning
that others would have the same effect. I also
feel like the songs I added on the second edit
with the atmosphere.
What problems did I have? While editing I did have some problems with how
I wanted to transition between a few scenes. It
would occasionally be a bit to abrupt for what
would be a sentimental scene with the footage.
How did I fix it? With transitioning between each scene instead of
doing it with the footage I tried to add sound
effect that would imply something is happening
like a car door shutting followed by the front door
opening since that can have just as much of an
impact as footage. I plan to do a third edit
focusing purely on sound design so I can make
everything much more immersive.
What I learnt
What still needs to be completed I completed my location recces but I still need to
upload them to my website.
What I need to do for next week I need to create my production booklet and
upload my location recess. For next week I plan
on doing any final shots that I considered doing
just to add to my timeline to allow a bit more
dynamic in my short film.

Week 15
What have I done this week? This week I have done my 3rd and 4th Draft edits.
The third editing I was focusing on was sound
design, I added a few more extra sound effects
and cleaned up certain transitions from scene to
scene. I’ve also layered sounds at the beginning
to allow it to start of more slowly until eventually
it builds up becoming more hectic. This is where
the scene would suddenly cut to a calm peaceful
scene which create a contrast from the two.
Another thing I did on the first scene was added a
cross dissolve to show time passing nearer to the
end of the scene. I also cleaned up the ending
which was quite abrupt in the second edit to a
much gentler ending, I also added a definition at
the end along with credits and a title at the start.
For the 4th and final edit, I just focused purely on
colour grade making the ending much warmer
and make the start much less saturated as time
moves along to show how dull everything is. I did
also shoot a last-minute shot of an empty main
road while it was slightly raining.
What went well I feel like the sound design went really well as it
allowed me to make transitioning between scene
much easier and smoother. While layering the
phone sound effect I feel like by adding certain
sound effects to the audio it allowed the whole
scene to have a bit more dynamic depth, I made
it where it sounds like there is more happening
outside the frame. I also feel like with the colour
correcting it really did help a lot more to show
that it was a warm atmosphere around the end
compared to just leaving it as a cold blue.
What problems did I have? While doing the 3rd edit, I did struggle to try and
find some sounds that would help with
transitioning between scenes. I did also have
some issue on the 4th edit trying to colour grade it
to be much warmer.
How did I fix it? From the 3rd edit I found a royalty free audio site
called uppbeat.io which had a section for sound
design where I found a riser and a reverse riser
which worked perfectly with the abrupt change
from the first scene to the second scene.
What I learnt I learnt that there are common sound effects
used such as riser and bass drop that are often
used in sound design to make the scene much
more dynamic and impactful with the story. I also
found out while asking for some help with colour
grading that you aren’t actually adding colours in
but more degrading the other colours out to
make it much more prominent. An example I was
given was one of the old yellow streetlights, if
you try adding a blue it would be very hard or
even impossible to add it since there is not blue
in the scene to start with.
What still needs to be completed I need to complete a location recce that I missed
out, I have the pictures already saved and the
template ready to edit. I need to create a
production booklet that includes all the planning.
I also need to complete evaluating each version
of my edit
What I need to do for next week Next week will be evaluations everything that I
have done. I will do all the things that I needed to
complete this week next week. Once I have done
that with that, I will start to evaluated each
section of my production, This includes idea
generation, research, Planning, pitching, and my
production. I will look into what went well, what
could be improved as well as how I plan to adapt
to it next time to cope better.

Week 16
What have I done this week? This week I have completed all the missing work
from last week, I created my production booklet,
finished of the car recce and filled out a sounds
list of everything I used in my edit. I started on
my evaluation, I’ve gone in order of the heading
and talked about in each one what went well, the
problems I had and how I overcame them. I
added as many screenshots of my production and
research that I had saved already as well as gone
back on my research when I was talking about
one specific thing
What went well I feel like my start on my evaluation is going well.
I covered the basics so far on what I’ve done for
everything as well as the issue and problems
solving.
What problems did I have? I did have some problems when it came to
making the production booklet, I wasted a lot of
time trying to import my location recces in, I tried
coping and pasting but it ended up not being
positioned right and moving the text all over the
place.
How did I fix it? I fixed my issue with the production booklet by
taking screenshots instead and uploading the file
underneath so they can still view the individual
file corresponding to what they are looking at.
What I learnt This week I haven’t really learnt anything its just
been mostly updating pre-existing work.
What still needs to be completed I need to finish of my final evaluation which I’m
hoping to finish by Tuesday before the deadline
