THE
GLORY
Glory

Kavod

Let’s explore a word that is used much in

Christian vocabulary. The word Glory. When

praying we say, “Lord I glorify you,” or when

lled with joy we shout “glory!” We describe

beautiful things like the setting of the sun as

glorious. Historical movies show valiant warriors

shouting “for the glory of Rome!”

Romans 3:23 says

“All have sinned and fall short of the GLORY of God.”

2 Chronicles 5:14, speaks of the Glory of the Lord lling the temple so that the

priest could not perform their duties. The glory, a tangible, physical

manifestation.

Moses cried out to the Lord, “Now show me your Glory.”- Exodus 33:18

Psalm 8 speaks of God crowning man with glory.

What is man that you think of him or the son of man that you concerned about him, you have made
him a little lower than Elohim and you crown him with GLORY and majesty-

“Psalm 8:4,5

So what is glory? how can one word describe so much.

The Hebrew word for glory is the word Kavod, and literally means to be heavy

or weighty, the word is used to describe the intensity or gravity of a thing, a

person or situation.

The rst time we see the word in the Bible is in Genesis 13:2 and it describes

Abraham’s wealth and I quote

“And Abraham was very RICH in cattle, in silver,

and in gold.

Kavod here is translated as rich, the intensity

of his wealth

Sodom and Gomorrah were 2 towns part of a region that was rife with sin and

perversion so much so that the Lord himself came to investigate and stated

why he came down in Genesis 18:20

“And the Lord said, “because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great
and because their sin is very GRIEVOUS

The word grievous is “kavod,”here in this verse it expresses the intensity of the

sin of of Sodom and Gomorrah

Eli was a priest of God and a judge in charge of the Ark of God which

represented the presence of God among the people of Israel. Israel went into

battle with the philistines and carried the Ark into battle, the Ark was captured

and when news got back to Eli he fell o his seat broke his neck and died. This

is described in the following verse

Then it happened, when he made

mention of the Ark of God, that Eli fell o
the seat backward by the side of the
gate, and his neck was broken and he
died, for he was an old man and HEAVY –
1 Samuel 4:18

Kavod is translated heavy in describing Eli’s excess, here again it expresses

something exceptional.

A favorite verse of mine is about Jabez and the request he made to the Lord

God

Glory
Page 3
Glory

Jabez was more honourable than his brothers and his mother called him Jabez,
because I bore him in pain, now Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “ O
that you would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that your hand
would be with me and enlarge my territory, that your hand would be with me
and that you would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God
granted him his request. 1Chronicle 4:8,9

Honorable is the Hebrew word Kavod, here this demonstrates Jabez as

distinguished from his brothers, exceptional.

So when Psalm 8 says man is crowned with God’s glory it means mankind is his

pride, his masterpiece made in his own image and likeness.

When we glorify God we acknowledge his magni cence, his awesomeness

When the book of Romans says we have fallen short of his glory, it means we

can’t attain that high standard, that righteousness, that magni cence.

Kavod or glory is about none status quo, a lack of mediocrity it’s about more

and most, most righteous God, most high God

When the glory of God physically

manifested it appeared as a cloud known as

the Shekinah, representing the

awesomeness of the creator

Psalm 29:1,2 says this

Ascribe to the Lord, O sons of the mighty, ascribe to the Lord glory and
strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name. Worship the Lord in the
beauty of holiness

Jesus in John 17:1 prays,

“glorify your son so that the son

may glorify you.

Jesus was praying that the father

would increase Jesus’s in uence and ability so that he would bring more of the

father into his arena of in uence.

This was not a self-centred prayer but a prayer that glori es God, as it says “so
that the son may glorify you.”

Pray with me

Father in heaven, enlarge my in uence, increase my anointing, expand my

knowledge, increase my wealth, so that I may be a force for you in my speech,
my work, in my giving, in everything I do Father be glori ed- In Jesus name
