Job analysis (National Costume Company)

The National Costume Company always views its employees as its strengths and the secret of
success. It has several employee-friendly HR practices. The company stood one of the top five
companies paying highest compensation to employees in the country and income tax to the
government. The HR Unit is headed by Shriman, a post graduate in HR.

Nonetheless, the company has been overwhelmed by some HR related problems. One of them is
the high rate of attrition, especially among the employees promoted and working in the critical
positions. The company appointed a team of national level HR experts to identify the reasons and
suggest appropriate remedial measures within a month,

The consulting team conducted exit interview with resigning employees to ascertain the reasons
for their leaving the company. It also interviewed all the existing employees in that cadre and
employees resigned within three years to reveal the reasons for leaving the company before
natural retirement.

The study revealed that almost all respondents were dissatisfied with their job; there was an
anomaly in authority, responsibility and accountability, overlapping of authority, unfair
compensation, poor work condition and so on. The reason for the situation was poorly done job
analysis. The CEO entrusted HR Head to review the report of experts and present separate report
about the situation. According to the report of the HR Head, the reason for the inaccuracies in the
job analysis report was the lack of employee cooperation during job analysis. However, he
defended the methods and techniques adopted in the job analysis process.

The company decided to undertake a fresh job analysis thoroughly through an HR Consulting
firm having substantial job analysis experience.
