Standard for Environmental Conscious Design (ECD)

for Electrical and Electronic Products and Systems

• Expectations
– The standard will describe the methodology and the core elements of
the integration of environmental aspects into the product planning
and development process and is closely aligned with IEC Guide 114
and ISO TR 14062.
– The standard will be a horizontal standard and allows sector or
company specific solutions within its frame. It is applicable for large
medium and small enterprises (SMEs).
– The standard will incorporate ECD into the decision-making design
process. Specifications in the standard are confined to factors that
could be influenced by designers. Statements on other factors are
informative only.

IEC 62430— Environmental Conscious Design for
Electrical and Electronic Products and Systems

• The standard standard will describe “what”but not “how”.

• Examples of ECD tools and their possible application without being

prescriptive will be included in the Annex .

• LCA will be referenced as a strategic tool.

• Limit the subject of data to the description of categories of data that

are necessary for ECD and interfaces or boundaries. This will be
carried out in conjunction with WG1.
