Shachar's Daily Routine 2017 Cleveland Trombone Seminar Shachar's Warmup & Daily Routine Commit to your musicianship and playing every day anew ‘My routine and concepts constantly evolve based on what I can and can't do, as well as my job requirements and schedule, I do me, you do YOU! I change my exercises every so often, which allows me to focus on concepts, rather than technical, mindless execution of exercises. | also change the order of my exercises depending on how feel on a given day and how much time I have to get through my routine. | do try to at least touch each aspect of this routine each day, be it long tones, slurs, lip flexibility, articulation, range, dynamics, and 0 forth. Do what feels right to you. Above all, stay positive, creative and mentally agile. Mouthpiece Bu: 1 (1 buzz about 10 minutes a day usually): Use a keyboard o drones. I like to think of a “humming” feel when I buzz. It keeps my playing relaxed and my mind focused on singing and sound, Play this exercise with glisses (to connect your notes with continuous air), slurs (for smoothness and pitch), and lightly articulated (to lean how your tongue rides easily on top of your air). Burgstaller Play scales, arpeggios and beautiful melodies throughout your range, All while keeping the easy humming feel and relaxed approach. Long Tones: e@ For me, every phrase is a beautiful long tone, and every long tone is a beautiful phrase. @ ‘This exercise combines easy slurs with long tones. You can play it throughout your range, and in varied dynamics. Keep the relaxed “humming feel” and remember to SING SING SING!!! Continue down Many of us often neglect our low range, but I find that the better my low range is, the better I play. You can continue down with the exercise above, or use this next one. Make sure to go all the way into your @ eal range, but dont lose your embouchure. Go fora compact singing sound, keep your breathing e deep and relaxed, and don't skip your low B! Go for an even (continuous) sound and slurs. Slokar be nff Continue down, Scales and Arpeggios: These are invaluable to any musician, Learn your scales and arpeggios in all keys and in as much of your range as you comfortably can. Play with slurs, tenutos, accents, or just short articulations, both loud and soff. Strive for a great and even sound and articulation, and great pitch. Aim to play throughout your range without needing to stop to “reset” When you master these, not only your ability as an instrumentalist will improve greatly, but you will also be able to sight-read better, and train your ear and your musical “muscles”.
