Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Title: Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Country: South Korea
Aired: Feb 24th 2017 – April 15th 2017
Episodes: 16

Strong Girl Bong-soon is a 2017 South Korean television

series starring Park Bo-young in the title role as a woman
with superhuman strength, with Park Hyung-sik and Ji Soo.
The drama series is a hilarious rom-com, with an undertone
of gender issues. Similar to other K-drama series, the story
has the usual elements; the good-looking conglomerate
heir, his cold and antagonistic family; the love triangle; the
boy gets girl story after overcoming difficulties, yet it
managed to have so much more.
Do Bong Soon is a woman who’s born with superhuman strength. This “ability” runs through the
female line in her family. However, this strength should only be used for good deeds or else she
can lose her strength forever just like her mom did. She’s got a twin brother, Do Bong Ki, who’s
a doctor in a hospital. Unlike her twin brother, Bong Soon got difficulties in finding a suitable
job. She always dreamt about being a game developer though.
Bong Soon has got another two men in her life. He was her childhood friend, Guk Doo, a stern
police detective played by Ji Soo. She always has a crush on him, so that’s why she never told
Guk Doo about her strength. She always acted like a tiny fragile woman in front of him. Another
one was Ahn Min Hyuk (Park Hyung Sik), the CEO of AIN Software. He ever witnessed Bong
Soon’s superpower over group of gangster and decided to hire her as his personal bodyguard
since he frequently got mysterious caller giving him death threats.
The good thing about this drama series is a wonderful blend of slapstick comedy, old fashioned
romance and refreshing roles of gender. Man has been pictured to always be stronger than
woman, but through this drama, loving a strong woman doesn’t make you any less man, it even
can make you be a better man. Even so, for some reasons, I was a little annoyed with all the back
sounds in many of scenes. Some people might like it, but it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
