SUBJECT: S7D ANTI-PARALLEL CYLINDERS STATUS REPORT

______________________________________________________________________________
Dear Hebert,

As you may already be aware, we are working around the clock to finish the Simba 7D rebuild project.

However we have encountered a few technical problems. Which shall be the major highlight of this
report.

The antiparallel cylinders that were bought from RDS failed to function almost immediately after testing
had commenced.
1.1 OBSERVATIONS
 The anti-parallel cylinders had failed prematurely.
 The cylinders were extending in the direction of the boom’s weight as depicted in the picture
below.
 The cylinders could not hold or maintain pressure
 Cylinders were experiencing hydraulic drift.

Figure 1 showing the failed cylinders

1.2 Short Bypass pipes

 The bypass pipes that came with the cylinders were approximately 2-3 mm shorter than the
Standard.
 The short pipes hence initiated leakages around the O-ring
 The pipes are shown in the picture inserted below.

505 mm
1.3 OVERCENTRE VALVES
 The Over Centre valves exhibited signs of reverse flow
 And the boom was found to be in a lower position than that it was left in the previous shift
despite the Over Centre valves being new.
2.0 CORRECTIVE ACTION

 The faulty cylinders were swapped with the Resemin type anti-parallel cylinders.
 New over Centre cylinders were requested.
 The Resemin cylinders were installed.

3.0 RECCOMMENDATION
One of our company values is “Quality”, hence am imploring management and logistics to strongly
adhere to that particular value before we can compromise our standards. Let us stick to reputable
spares suppliers in as much as we look for more cost effective deals. We have now lost time on the
estimated delivery for the Simba 7D due to the unfortunate happenings of today.
